On top of a myriad of live performances at the 2013 BET Awards, close to 10 music-related awards were given out to a variety of acts during the three hour-long awards ceremony in Los Angeles on June 30.
TDE rapper Kendrick Lamar racked up the most awards as he took home the title of “Best New Artist” and “Best Male Hip Hop Artist” as well as “Best Collaboration,” alongside A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, and Drake for “Fuckin’ Problems.”
Crooner Chris Brown once again took home the fan-approved “FANdemonium Award” for the fourth year in a row although he was unable to win the title of “Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.” Miguel beat out the likes of Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, and Usher to win that particular award.
Nicki Minaj, who performed alongside Brown at the awards show, also won big as she beat out Azealia Banks, Eve, Rasheeda, and Rye Rye for the title of “Best Female Hip Hop Artist.”
