Despite it being a holiday week, nothing slowed down. With the 4th of July breaking up the week on Wednesday, there was only one real day off, but that didn’t stop the music from playing. Two tracks on the list this week came from our 4th of July playlist, and with the exception of one or two songs, this list is all songs that dropped within this past week. While the basic assumption is that nobody does anything during a holiday week, artists dropped songs and you listened to them. So we were all still pretty busy.
Pusha T and Kanye West Have a New God Flow, 4th Of July Brings Memories Of Watch The Throne and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Last weekend the BET Awards aired, and we got a little glimpse of the “New God Flow.” Kanye West brought the acapella element into his performance with Pusha T just as the week before that they leaked the single artwork. Sure enough, the song released this week, and it lived up to all of the hype. Of course it made it to the #1 spot. Kanye showed up again at #8 and #10 as part of our 4th of July playlist. At #8 was “Who Will Survive In America.” the instrumental composition off My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Then at #10 we got “Made In America.” with Jay-Z, Kanye, and Frank Ocean off The Throne’s opus, Watch the Throne, with Yelawolf’s “Let Me Out” right about it at #9. Looks like the New God Flow even wins with songs from last year.
Life Is Still Good For Nas, Curren$y and Lil Wayne Have a Reunion
In less than two weeks, Nas will be dropping Life Is Good. We’re getting a healthy amount of leaks off the project, and this week they continue to do their rounds. At #2 is his collaboration with Large Professor “Loco-Motive” with No I.D. on the beats. Then at #3 we get the Salaam Remi produced joint “Cherry Wine” with the late Amy Winehouse. At #6 is the return of “Accident Murderers” with Rick Ross, who also shows up on the list again right above this one at #5 with “Hold Me Back.” It’s easy to forget that Curren$y was once a part of the YMCMB empire. He left minutes before the crew blew up, but this week we see he and the YMCMB kingpin Lil Wayne together again on “Don’t Miss This Jet,” produced by Big K.R.I.T. at #7. Chris Brown isn’t as friendly with Young Money right now. His Drake diss “I Don’t Like” freestyle shows up at #4.
