    1. It’s still depressing to me sometimes when I go back to this album and hear how most of its sound is compressed and loud enough to sound distorted when it shouldn’t. Sure, the distortion on Gorgeous is intentional and I love that song, but the rest sounds more like an ill-advised obsession to be louder at the expense of quality.

      1. Don’t get me wrong I think the album is amazing, but like Anonymous said it was a victim of the loudness wars during the mastering process and that part apparently was out of Kanye’s control. The fact that the version of Monster released during G.O.O.D. Fridays sounds so much better than the MBDTF version is a clear indicator to me.

Kanye is always in control his hit off that album was “power” afterall, dude will slap a mastering engineer for fucking up lol best believe it sounds the way Kanye intended it to.

We all know how much of a perfectionist Kanye is, but I really do believe someone dropped the ball between his finished tracks and what ended up on the CDs. Again I bring up Monster because there are two versions of it – pre-mastering and post-mastering – and there’s a clear winner in terms of sound quality. If you’re interested, here’s a graphic demonstration of how they compromised the song’s dynamic range and produced audible clipping to make it louder (and this happens throughout the whole album, except again for Gorgeous where it’s clearly intentional): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=24537042&postcount=1174
