Hip-Hop heads, who have never registered to vote, pay close attention to this year’s campaign directed towards you. Rap the Vote is set to relaunch this fall with Russell Simmons, NAACP’s Jeff Johnson and Jehmu Greene from Rock the Vote. At a press conference last week, the group’s organizer’s described the path they plan to take to get young people to vote as well as their reasoning behind the relaunch. “We’ve come to a point where being apathetic isn’t cool anymore,” Russell Simmons said. “You can see it in the culture. We cannot make young people do what they are not ready to do. They’re ready. We’re going to water those seeds that are already there in the community.”
Rap the Vote plans to sponsor Public Service Announcements (PSA) with P. Diddy and Rosie Perez as well as others and using artists (Jay-Z and Alicia Keys as well as others) to participate in projects to educate the community.
