For the first time in history, the hip-hop culture will be documented in a major pictorial book. The book titled “WHO SHOT YA? Three Decades of Hip-Hop Photography” will document three decades hip-hop culture and music through the eyes of legendary photographer’s Ernie Paniccioli’s 35 millimeter camera. The pictures will travel from Grandmaster Flash at the Roxy nightclub in the early 80’s to the Rock Steady Crew, Tupac Shakur, Lauryn Hill, Eminem, Will Smith and Queen Latifah. Ernie Paniccioli, chief photographer for Word Up! Magazine since 1989 has also photographed such notable faces as Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, John F. Kennedy, Jr., Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, Andy Warhol, and Jimmy Carter.
“WHO SHOT YA?”, is edited by notable writer, poet and political activist Kevin Powell. Having published his fourth book “Step Into A World: A Global, Anthology of the New Black Literature, Powell first gained national attention as an original cast member with MTV’s hit television show “The Real World”. Look out for the pictorial published by Amistad, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, to hit stores nationwide in late October of 2002.
