As far as I can remember this is the first time at an awards show that six people tied for one award. Yes, you heard me right. With the stream of hits coming from several different artists last year, BMI found it hard to ignore one artist for another. Six people tied for the BMI 2002 Urban Awards Songwriter of the Year Award given away August 6th at Club Tropigala in Miami. The award was given to the songwriter who had two songs they wrote make the list of the most performed songs.

Songwriter of the Year Award:

Irv Gotti and Ja Rule- “I’m Real”(Jennifer Lopez featuring Ja Rule) and “Put It On Me” ( Ja Rule featuring Lil Mo and Vita)

Pharrell Williams- “Danger”(Mystical featuring Nivea) and “Southern Hospitality” (Ludacris)

Jay-Z –“Izzo” (H.O.V.A) and “Fiesta”(R.Kelly featuring Jay-Z)

The awards show was also unable to give a single award to producer of the year.
