This year BMI will hold the first Urban Awards show in Miami Beach, Florida to honor urban songwriters and publishers that maintained highly played songs on urban radio and television nationwide over the past year. Several of the people that are scheduled to be in attendance at the awards show are Brandy, Ja Rule and Irv Gotti, Camron (who has recently encounter legal trouble I’m sure everyone’s heard about), Noreaga, Cash Money Millionaires, The Neptune’s (who have done big things for radio), Jazze Pha, Mario Winans and Sunshine Anderson.
A special tribute will be paid to “The Godfather of Soul” James Brown for his personal musical contributions over the years. The tribute will be put together by several of today’s hottest producers, Rodney Jerkins, The Neptune’s and Dallas Austin. One of the categories that will be chosen is Songwriter of the Year, which I am sure is going to be very difficult to choose. It is not known who will be performing during the event. The invitation only event will be held at Club Tropigala at the Fontainebleau Hilton Resorts & Towers Beach on August 6th at 7pm.
