Drake Ties The Beatles For 2nd Most Billboard Hot 100 Singles — Ever

John Lennon and George Harrison might be rolling over in their graves right now. But it’s true — Drake has officially tied The Beatles for the second most Billboard Hot 100 singles ever.

On Monday (June 17), Billboard confirmed the Toronto Raptors superfan earned his 34th Hot 100 Top 10 song after Chris Brown’s “No Guidance” featuring Drake debuted at No. 9 on the chart.

The only artist to have more Top 10 singles than the British Fab Four and Drake is Madonna with 38. It took the pop queen 16 years to accomplish that feat, while it took the 6 God just under 10 years. But then again, streaming hadn’t changed the game yet.

Drake has had 194 singles hit the Hot 100 during the course of his career, shattering longstanding records held by not only The Beatles but also Usher and more.

Last October, Drake’s collaboration with Bad Bunny on the track “Mia” became his 12th song to reach the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 that year, surpassing The Beatles’ previous mark of 11 for most Top 10 hits in a single year.

Three months prior, Drake also beat The Beatles’ 54-year-old record for most simultaneous Hot 100 Top 10 singles.

And there could be more on the horizon. Following the Raptors’ win, Drake dropped two new singles, “Omertá” and “Money in the Grave” featuring Rick Ross. At just 32 years old, Drake has a long road ahead of him and it appears he’s just getting started.

    1. Since that’s a Chris Brown track, does that mean the Beatles’ total includes all of the other artists’ tracks that the Beatles appeared/wrote on. I bet it doesn’t, because Paul McCartney is on the list as a solo artist on 23.

The Beatles also shipped physical records, they couldn’t just release 20-plus tracks on every album to exploit the way streams are counted towards sales.

Oh and, as ever, Drake doesn’t write, The Beatles did. Drake probably writes as much of his own bars as Ringo wrote of The Beatles’ lyrics.

      1. I guarentee you drake at this current height surpasses both in popularity and creativity by far the beatles

        1. Hahahahahahahabbabababbababababa oh my god did you just say drake surpasses the Beatles in creativity?? That’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever fuckin heard. The Beatles revolutionized popular music every time they dropped and all drake has done is ride waves. Cmon son

          1. @ Lmfao. Your name is suiting. The Beatles took the staples of African-American music and popularized it. You say Drake is a wave rider but his approach was much more unique and innovative than the Beatles. Anyone who knows how to play a guitar knows modern pop music is all derivative of African-American rock n roll music and blues . The Beatles were great but they could easily be labelled as “wave riders”. There first album was mostly covers

    2. Streams need their own category and separate accolades. You can’t compare or equate it to physical sales where people had to get off their ass and buy the damn product.

      1. that was back then, people needed to send messages through ravens before text messages. no one wants to buy a physical album and risk it getting scratched plus cars barely have cd players dummy. get with the times grandpa

        1. And here is a perfect example of a complete imbecile….No where did I discredit streaming. Simply make separate categories for it cus there’s no possible way to equate it with physical sales no matter how hard you try to justify it.

        2. Physical media all day long. Nothing beats having a collection you can see and browse through.

You totally missed the guys point as well, in that you can’t compare streaming with physical media sales. You were too busy trying to offend him that you didn’t even get his point.

          Cretin.

          1. *Alarm sounds*
Physical media is for Autists…I repeat Physical media is for Autists… I repeat Physical media is for Autists

    3. Yet he’s worth 150,000,000 and Jay Z, Kanye, Nikki, Diddy and about 50 other musicians are worth more than he is. Strange. LOL. Paying all those people for rhymes, beats, security… all those click farms. That cuts in to the cash, eh? LOL. Every member of the Beatles was or is worth more than this clown. Fuck Canada BTW. Cosplay Americans.

      1. LOL @ Nicki being worth more. Also you’re comparing him to moguls who are nearly 20 years older than him and were doing this since he was a toddler. Jay wasn’t worth 100 ms when he was 32.

        1. LOL@ your gaynadian ass. The beetles had more than the equivalent of that in today’s currency, each, at a younger age than him. Lady Gaga is a year older and has twice the money. She didn’t need click farms and ghost writers. Neither did Em, Jay, Dre. Diddy did. He’s a bitch. Smacked the shit out of Drake though. LOL. Also, where is Drakes girl at? He can’t hold down a bitch for shit. Rihanna shat on him. Riri is a year younger too. Way more money than dude. Please stick your head back up your ass and keep worshiping Bieber 2 over here. LOL. Speaking of which, Biebs is 24, and worth 100M more than Grayke… interesting. LOL. You’re a moron.

    4. “Runs American hip hop”. Hip POP you mean.

This clown has no clout at all. He’s a pop artist, and has nowhere near the talent countless other artists have.

If you’re trying to big Drake up, you’re an idiot.

    5. Hmmm the Beatles made all their music from scratch and drakes just a culture vulture who don’t make his own beats or write his own lyrics. Drake will never ever be in the same league as the Beatles. Not even close

        1. Fun fact? LOL. Rock, rap etc was all created by black people, who used instruments created by the white man and the very structure of music, how it is written and read, from the white man. Dummy. Fun fact.

        1. That’s hilarious there snowflake. How come he has less money than everyone else on the top 5 list? That doesn’t seem a bit strange to you? Sit your suburban privileged Ss down. Fucking a few fake black dudes doesn’t give you an opinion. Suzy. We’ll let you know when it’s time to vacuum or do some dishes.

    6. Damn. He has less money than Justin Bieber who is 24, yet supposedly is this artist outselling everyone with records? Sounds like some bullshit to me. LOL

    7. The comments on here are so hilarious and lack an understanding of the history of music. Maybe you aren’t “real” hiphop fans? Maybe you love the Beatles too much and are brainwashed by the past? Maybe you just hate Drake winning and hate his popularity? That’s fine but this is nothing new in music. …Firstly, anyone who was paying any attention knows Drake was well onto his way to destroying all these Billboard records within a few years of his career, he was doing more hits than Jay-Z’ s 15 year career in 3 years (physical records vs streaming)…it didn’t matter how you count it, he was leading the pack with number 1 records and scoring more than his competitors. He even brags about it on “5am in Toronto”. It was very obvious he was going to continue to be massive. If you didn’t notice, you just weren’t paying any attention. (And yes, the Beatles also had critics complaining about how LP sales were being counted at that time too as the Beatles were breaking many of Elvis’ records which were radio hits!) Secondly, you act like the Beatles are some holy men because history has already solidified their stature. Folks, history is written by the winners and in their day, super popular artists are usually polarizing like Drake because the youth (16 years olds) love them and anyone over 25 doesn’t get it. The critics are just always forgotten by history because those 16 year old Beatles fans turn 30 and rewrite history and forget about the older critics. But in their day, The Beatles like Drake were derided as a “simple catchy song” pop group also – don’t forget. Many thought that the Beatles were annoying and over-rated and they were openly ridiculed by the mainstream “sophisticated” critics who thought they were undeserving of their fame. “Beatlemania” was driven by teenybopper girls and most serious men over 25 thought the Beatles were a total joke (this is well known). Even their first album was loaded with catchy covers of songs they actually didn’t write (a pop music landmark at the time). Frankly, if people say Drake was a wave-rider or culture vulture (bogus arguments if anyone actually knows the history of music) but accepting this, by anyone’s standards the Beatles were much much worse than Drake! The British Beatles borrowed much more from the dominant African-American sound at the time (soul, blues, rocknroll) than any UK artist could ever get away with today without acknowledging this first. And yes, likewise, hiphop artists have been derided in equal measurement as their fame was on the rise: half of Jay-z’s songs are dedicated to dismissing his critics as haters just like Biggie Smalls popularized the “playa hater” term and wrote Kick in the Door to deal with all the venom he was getting. You can hate Drake or love him, it doesn’t matter. Drake is going to continue to dominate and as history goes on, many of his Billboard records will remain untouchable. History will be kinder and kinder as his fans get older and older. In the end, all great memorable artists are both polarizing and popular in their time and Drake perfectly fits the bill. The artists who aren’t criticized, critical darlings and are totally non-controversial like say Kendrick Lamar actually tend to be less romanticized as time goes by sadly. And yes, I’m a fan of all of the above. Just telling you the facts. Sorry if that hurts.

    8. This shit doesn’t count. The new way they figure streams is straight bullshit to hide the fact that the music business is dying.

    9. Yet the Beatles wrote and composed all their own music. Drake the COAT has to ride waves and steal other rapper’s verses to stay relevant. Enjoy the Craptors’ only championship they’ll ever get. They’re lucky they got Kawhi.

      1. Funny. Given this logic, The Beatles then stole more from black culture by borrowing blues and rocknrooll arrangements, chords and scales than Drake ever did. Beatles didnt write “Twist and Shout” or “That’ll Be the Day” and plenty of other famous songs they did as covers. Show me the artist who did “Headlines” or “Im on One” before Drake. Seems like Drake mostly led the path into melodic raps. You dismiss Drake’s innovation but the Beatles are the true well-known kings of “stealing” of black music (if we really want to make that argument).

        1. Stealing of black music? Wow, how low can you go? Drake been stealing rapper’s verses (Mase, Rappin 4 Tay, Too Short, Project Pat). “I’m on One” isn’t even Drake’s song, it’s Khaled’s, try again. No shit the Beatles didn’t write their cover songs, that’s why they’re called covers, dumbass. And they get permission to cover those songs, unlike Drake who just slaps 4-Tay’s verse on a track and changes up a few words but still doesn’t show homage to the original until he gets the shit sued out of him. Drake had plenty of songs written by Weeknd and Quentin Miller, something you’ll still try to deny. And show me where the Beatles stole “arrangements and chords” from black music. And don’t give me no bullshit “Look it up” answer either. You obviously know somethings we don’t. Show us the Carfax, COAT tail rider.

          1. @ Drake’s a cornball. This is a perfect example of someone who doesn’t understand hiphop culture pretending to understand hiphop culture. Reciting and recycling a rapper’s line is done out of respect for the original artist. This is a tradition that goes all the way from the beginnings of hiphop in NYC. I could recite millions of original MCs who do this. But how about we just take Jay-Z, how many Jay-Z lines has he recited from Biggie? Did you know the hook for 99 Problems is really an Ice-T song? Drake using Too Short’s line is great example of not understanding how to dissect hiphop lyricism as the homage is inserted in Drake’s verse. Too Short says: “I go on and on / Can’t understand how I last so long / I must have super powers / Rap 225 thousand hours” but Drake says “I go on and on / Can’t understand how I last so long / I must have super powers / Rap 223 thousand hours” . Drake’s is “Too Short” of 225. Thats called homage dude – its in the wordplay hiphop expert lol. Giving credit to Khaled for “Im on One” almost had me falling out of my chair. Everyone knows Khaled doesnt write music. As far as the Beatles go, in terms of “culture vulturing” black music re: blues and rocknroll (while I dont believe in the term “culture vulturing”), you obviously have never played an instrument in your life nor understand the history of American music. Paul McCartney would openly admit that the Beatles borrowed and were heavily influenced by Black African-American musicians. Its so obvious there success was contigent on black music its amazing you are so ignorant of the history. Take a song like “Revolution” and play it next to “Johnny B Goode” by Chuck Berry or any Muddy Waters. This is based on the blues chords and arrangements. This goes back to Elvis Presley being the white face of black music. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and Led Zepplin are all examples of artists who were very heavily influence black rocknroll and blues. Even guitar distortion itself is credited to Ike Turner. Maybe you should get into something else? Your music knowledge is very bad, its laughable. Its ok to hate Drake, but get your facts straight. Ive heard much better anti-Drake arguments. Your understanding of music is very simple.

            1. The Beatles/blues comparisons you tried to pull are called influences, my guy. You even said so yourself in the middle of that essay you wrote. “Ooh, he said 223 instead of 225, it’s ‘too (2) short’ wordplay, homage” Oh, so if I was a rapper, I could steal verses from rappers I never met all day long and change up one word and call it “homage”. LOL. And Jay-Z knew Biggie personally, they were friends before he died, so Jay using Biggie’s rhymes make sense, even if Nas has attacked him for doing so. He’s “bigging up his brother, bigging up his borough” as he once said. And yes, “I’m on One” is Khaled’s song, it’s DJ Khaled featuring Drake, not Drake featuring DJ Khaled. My understanding of music is very simple? Okay, Beethoven. Get off your high horse and get your head out of Drake’s ass already.

    10. @AndyC84. hip pop..lol… whatever you want to call it: Ghostface, Jay-Z, Schoolboy Q, Kanye West, Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick Lamar and Nas – all on record as huge Drake fans. Maybe you dont know how to dissect bars. Drake’s bars on say Summer 16 or 4pm in Calabasas has the wordplay that messes with any elite MC.

    11. So for a quick recap. Dre has writers, kanye has em, everyone had Motown had em, drake has em, MJ had em…..that leaves us Prince, and Robert Johnson. Sound about right?

    12. In my opinion, drake and the beatles are the worst. Typical, white artists stealing from black artists and getting paid. Black music was doing just fine before the British evasion and the north came along. Stay in your own countries with that bullshit music.
