Drake Surpasses Eminem As Highest-Selling Singles Artist In RIAA History

Drake has been crowned the highest certified singles artist in RIAA history, eclipsing fellow commercial juggernaut Eminem.

The 6 God continued his record-breaking run on Thursday (December 8) by earning 10 new plaques from the Recording Industry Association of America, taking his total to 184 million singles sold.

That figure pushes Drake past Eminem, who was previously awarded the distinction in March after achieving 166 million units for his singles catalog.

Drizzy’s historic RIAA haul includes two diamond certifications for “Hotline Bling” and “One Dance,” commemorating at least 10 million units in the U.S.

With that, he’s now just the third act in history to score at least five diamond singles. “God’s Plan,” “SICKO MODE” with Travis Scott and “Life Is Good” with Future are the other three to achieve the feat.

Drake’s shiny new hardware puts him in rare company with Bruno Mars and Post Malone, who have six and five diamond singles, respectively.

The Toronto native is also closing in on the record for the highest certified RIAA song, which is jointly held by Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” which are both 17x-platinum.

Drake’s 2018 Scorpion hit “God’s Plan” soared to 15x-platinum status on Thursday, extending its lead as the biggest-selling single in his catalog.

There’s another close competition brewing between Drake and JAY-Z. Last month, the OVO hitmaker tied Hov’s record for most No. 1s on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart among rappers with 14 thanks to his latest chart-topping effort, Her Loss.

Drizzy is a perfect 14-for-14 on the chart going back to his major label debut album Thank Me Later, which dropped in 2010. JAY-Z’s streak began with his third LP Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life in 1998.

    1. Only for singles. Drake will never catch up with Eminem in album sales. No rapper will unfortunately. Both are cornballs. Although Em’s old music was nice.

      1. Just to state the obvious… OVO is a troll. However, just to make it clear… Eminem has still sold over 50 million more records lol. Just do a quick Google search 🙂 I still think both are trash except for Em’s earlier albums, but I love getting a response out of you haha

      1. Lmao, drake is barely black… I wouldn’t even call him a black man. I’d called him mixed. He definitely isn’t black or white. But it’s true. The age of streaming never should’ve counted towards sales. People have streams going for hours and listen to all sorts of stuff they’d never pay for. Music is far more accessible worldwide today than it was in the Era of CDs and tapes. Couldn’t listen on the go without carrying an extra device and headphones. Totally different.

    2. This doesn’t surprise me at all
Drake connects to a more larger, younger audience, that have grown up with him
Eminem fans have grown up with him too, but a lot of them, weren’t big hip hop fans, they just dug him, because of his emotional impact. Where as drakes music ( which I don’t like) still stays true to the younger audiences. Big ups to drakes man

      1. He definitely is…….and anyone before ‘Em and Drake, like the pioneers off hip hop. LL Cool J is one off the pioneers, Legends. ‘Em and anybody else after walk in LL dust, because without the true originators, pioneers, legends and creators off hip hop non off these artists of today would exist. I’m a eighties baby grew up right along these artists when hip hop was just in its infancy stage. Money and accolades is great, but it’s the art form that is what’s is most important and the start off the art form; how it was build from the ground up by black artists the culture off it all and who it represents. The real pioneers are not getting there flowers……there just dues it’s sad, because they they truly need that recognition it’s important for the history off hip hop. I know who they are all and the list is too long to list here, they created and opened the doors for money to be made and accolades to be received, but are sadly a lot off them are broke or have died broke without the recognition they truly deserve. One off the pioneers I will list here is…….Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, you young people need to do your homework, research and learn who the real heroes are off this beautiful Art Form. The state off hip hop is sad today……it’s not what was………I can speak on that 💯, because I grew up in the era that started it all and I’ve seen what as changed about it. It’s not socially conscious anymore, the music is not fun the swearing, the talking of hurting people, the use off the N….word is distracting, disturbing and disgraceful to hear and to my ancestors. Vanity and money is killing the ArtForm that I love so much, purity no longer exist anymore in the music.

    3. Can anyone say streams? Good for Drake though, he really does deserve it. He’s going to be breaking a lot more records cause he’s far from done.

    4. Drake sucks dat why he got ppl writing his stuff homie aint got real skill ig u can say his music sounds good but drake isnt even a rapper he more a pop/singer artist now with auto tune
