Sometimes Hip Hop can move at a pace too frantic for even the most devoted fan to keep up with. Albums and mixtapes are released at breakneck speed, careers are made and broken with the swipe of a pen, and somewhere in between all the madness actual music (the quality of which vacillates between excellent and god awful) is being made. Twitter provides a nice summary of everything 140 characters at a time. And if you’re the type that would rather not be bothered with stepping into the Twitterverse to catch up on the latest in Hip Hop, we’ve filtered through the top rapper’s tweets and consolidated all the week’s events into one convenient feed.
This week, ScHoolboy Q was involved in a shooting after his concert with Nas and Flying Lotus, Crooked I adds TV producer to his resume, and Top Dawg Entertainment’s CEO reveals that Jay Rock’s project is coming up next.
Dr. Dre Reveals Release Date For Upcoming N.W.A. Biopic
Dr. Dre’s Twitter bio: “This is Dr. Dre’s official Twitter page. Dr. Dre does not tweet.” Guess the title should have been “Dr. Dre’s Social Media Manager Reveals Release Date For Upcoming N.W.A. Biopic.” It doesn’t matter who tweeted it. What matters is that there is a set date (sup Detox) for Straight Outta Compton, the highly anticipated N.W.A. biopic. Along with Dre’s tweet, a picture of former N.W.A. member Ice Cube, Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Grey and Dr. Dre himself was also shared. The trio is joined by another trio, three official cast members. O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jason Mitchell and Marcus Callendar are slated to portray Ice Cube, Eazy-E and Dr. Dre, respectively.

Dom Kennedy Tweets To The Universe
Dom Kennedy tweeted what every Angeleno (aka Los Angeles resident) wishes when they stay in NYC for a long period of time. It’s not the residents’ fault that the city is abundant with Mexican restaurants and taco stands. So what if L.A. is spoiled with amazing food from our neighboring country and taco trucks are easy to find after 5pm. Yeah, In N Out and Mexican food are two L.A. food staples so it makes sense that Dom Kennedy would have withdrawals of one of the two. Maybe if he tweeted it more, his wish would come true.

Mac Miller’s Watching Movies With The Sound Off Turns One
It’s been a full year that Mac Miller’s second studio album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, has been shared with the public. Mac has described the album to be “very introspective and very personal” and a depiction of what’s going on inside his head after the time he’s spent working. After the Billboard chart success of Blue Slide Park, Miller had the freedom to experiment with his second album in sound and content. Watching Movies With The Sound Off was rated 4 out 5 by HipHopDX and was described as a “more focused” album. If you’re wondering what he’s referring to when he said “something that would have changed everything,” he was talking about the original version of “The Star Room.” Listen to it here.
Ice Cube Still Filling N.W.A. Biopic Roles
So we were given a set date, August 14, 2015, and shown three actors that will be playing the roles of Ice Cube, Eazy-E and Dr. Dre in the upcoming Straight Outta Compton film. Two more slots from the California rap group still need to be filled. Ice Cube, who is a producer on the film, tweeted that he’s still looking for actors to portray MC Rena and DJ Yella. Back in March, the casting directors held open casting calls in Los Angeles and Atlanta to look for the main roles. Three were only casted and if the release date is still going to be a little over a year from now, the casting directors better be on the hunt to make those filming deadlines.

Action Bronson & Q-Tip Have World Cup Fever
Action Bronson and Q-Tip made a World Cup appearance in last week’s list and since the exciting first round matches are still going, the tweets are flowing in. In these set of tweets, Bronsolini and Q-Tip were watching the Mexico vs. Brazil 0-0 match. They were two of the 11 million total who tuned in for the game or 2 of 6.8 million people watching the game on Univision. You know, since they both like soccer in Spanish and all (check previous list). The goalie that both Bronson and Q-Tip mentioned in their tweets is Guillermo Ochoa, the goalie for the Mexican soccer team who let nothing get in his net. Ochoa said of this particular game, “It was the game of my life.” Looks like the rappers would agree.

USA’s Clint Dempsey Probably Did Play UGK Before The First Match
In more World Cup news, Clint Dempsey, the captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team, scored the fastest goal in U.S. World Cup history in the USA’s first game against Ghana. Seriously, 32 seconds. The man must have listened to UGK to bring out the energy he started the game with. Clint Dempsey is from Nacogdoches, Texas and while he plays soccer full-time, he’s a rapper on the side. Oh, and he loves UGK. Dempsey was interviewed in The All-Star Tribute To UGK documentary and he opened his segment with “I’m Clint Dempsey, Captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team. UGK for life.” Did I mention that Dempsey raps too? Here’s his latest track which was released a few days after his 32-second goal.

Success Is The Best Revenge, Just Ask Crooked I
Some teachers tend to be mean to their students, but to tell them they won’t amount to anything in this world? Slaughterhouse member Crooked I had an experience with a teacher like that back in the 6th grade and now, he’s ready to show her that he’s added a new title to his resume. Crooked I will serve as producer on The Road to Total Slaughter, a four-episode series leading up to the main pay-per-view event, Total Slaughter. The episodes will air on Fuse and unedited and extended versions will appear on WatchLOUD.com. On top of serving as producer, Crooked I will also serve as a judge on the series along with the rest of Slaughterhouse. I’m sure his teacher would love an update.

ScHoolboy Q Detained After Colorado Concert Shooting
ScHoolboy Q was apparently detained after a shooting took place outside of his show with Nas and Flying Lotus in Colorado. The news broke after a reporter from The Denver Post took a picture of ScHoolboy Q, calling him “the man detained.” Q did tweet after the debacle. Straight to the point, “im str8…… dont trip.” He was only detained at the beginning of the investigation for questioning and then later released. Details are still being figured out but we do know that the SUV ScHoolboy Q was inside was fired at and three individuals were struck by the gunfire and taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The investigators handling the case do not believe the shooting was a random event, but facts are still left to unfold.
Rihanna Also Has World Cup Fever
Rihanna isn’t being left out. She’s jumping right in to the World Cup madness live tweeting matches. During these set of tweets, Rih Rih was watching Argentina vs. Iran game which Argentina ended up winning when Lionel Messi scored the first and only goal during stoppage time. “We looking at you!” tweets Rihanna. It’s clear to see who she was rooting for in this match but glad she noticed that Iran’s defense was putting up a good fight. BRUH.
