Slim Shady Slips: Eminem’s “Revival” Sales Projections

Eminem is going to top the Billboard 200 chart once again but his numbers won’t be as impressive as they once were. According to a report by HITS Daily Double, Slim Shady’s Revival album is expected to move 250,000 to 260,000 units (sale plus streaming) with 180,000 to 190,000 coming in pure album sales.

This is a dramatic dropoff from his previous album, 2013’s Marshall Mathers LP 2, which moved 792,000 units in its first week. If the projections are true, Revival will garner Eminem’s worst first week sales since 1999’s Slim Shady LP, which sold 283,000 copies.

While Eminem’s sales are noticeably down, the projections would put him on par with one of his contemporaries, JAY-Z. Hov’s critically acclaimed 4:44 moved 262,000 units in its debut week. Eminem’s sales fall well short of Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN., which sold 603,000 copies in its first week, and Drake’s More Life, which moved 505,000 copies.

Check out more of the sales projections below.

    G-Eazy (BPG/Revels Group/RCA) 130-140k, 80-90k
    Jeezy (Def Jam) 55-65k, 35-40k
Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Walt Disney) 40-44k, 37-40k
    N.E.R.D. (N.E.R.D./Columbia) 19-23k, 11-13k

    1. Eminem was always corny
Now hes trying to be “woke” and conscious

Scarface dropped a better album ya heard meh?

        1. What does money have to do with the fact that this album is agreed by everyone to be trash, he only will sell that much because people hope it will be good. Eminem has always been my favorite. But there is no excuse for this bad production, gay ass beats, Eminem having a dorky clown voice on half the songs. He literally took everything the fans complain about and did all of it on one album somehow.

            1. how’d em loss a mill its the FIRST WEEK!!!! lmao it’ll end up real platinum in a month or 2

              delusional em haters HAHA

        2. Wrong, it’s his work from 99-03 that got him rich, you idiot.. And uhh, you’ll probably never see the amount of money I make in your life.. Try a different insult next time lmao

        1. If you can point out where I “bitched” about him dissing Trump, I’ll give you one of my cars….. I’ll wait..

          1. you didnt right here, but you sound the same poster who keeps whining that eminem “betrayed” him by insulting his “hero” trump. oh and by the way, selling an actual 200k is by no means an “L” in this climate in the industry. no rapper or artist of any genre is matching their first week or total sales of even 3-4 years ago.

            1. When his sales don’t add up to his marketing and production budget, that’s an L. When you’re used to being the highest selling artist in the industry, but fall WAY short of Drake, Kendrick and J. Cole first week sales, that’s an L. For any other artist it wouldn’t be, but for him, it is.

    2. Jeezy’s arrogance in interviews didn’t pay off, hey? Someone’s not laughing to the bank. Expect all his next stream of interviews to dodge around the question, not give a straight answer, and speak on his other revenue streams that he won’t speak on specifically, just with vague descriptions.

    3. Eminem was known for good storytelling, but now it seems he’s sacrificed all of that for this intricate rhymescheme shit over overproduced mainstream pop beats. We all know that eminem is a good rapper, but he seems to wanna prove that time and time again by just rapping fast that makes the story of the song so incoherent. He needs to surround himself with proven a-list producers and drop all of the producers he’s working with now,but it could be that he just is a very very bad beatpicker.Someone needs to tell him that.Cant believe he’s putting out this garbage. The worst album he ever drooped by faaaaar.Makes recovery and relapse sound like classics in comparison.

    4. People are lame and can’t make a decision for themselves. It’s like ice cream, if I like Chocolate but u don’t, and a lot of people don’t. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad, just means some people prefer a different flavor than Chocolate. Simple as ABC. I personally like this album and have listened to it over and over. People keep trying to put it down and just spread hate, how stupid would that sound for you to keep commenting under an ice cream forum about a flavor you don’t like. You can tell it’s nothing but kids on here.

      1. not correct sir your comparison is lacking. Cuz I usually like chocolate ice cream but the Store that I like produced this time a batch of shit cream and thats why I dont like it. Not because everyone has different taste its because its horrible quality compared to what we used to.

    5. Only kids will like this album.Cause it sounds more like a pink album for 14year olds so that ice cream analogy aint gonna work, but nice try.Real hip hop fans aint buying this album. Its trash, end of.No matter how u wrap it.And people say he’s evolving? How?By making dumb down hip pop music?Nah,u kids can have it.

    6. I like my music with some crispy crust on it cooked to perfection with some olives and fresh salad by the side.

    7. Yes yes this album tasted like a bad meatball.Lacked the seasoning on it and was way overcooked.Keep it simple, often the best

    8. A good old seasoned wine cant save this album.Way to salty.Reminds me of the time i was in honolulu and ate a octopus dish at a so called good restaurant, but no.Ended up shittin tentacles all night.Eat right and healthy kids

    9. I think i’ve been to that restaurant anthony.Think it was called revival or sumthin.Had to spend the whole vacation on the toilet

    10. I can shit out better beats than the beats eminem picked for this album!Just give me a day or two old meatball and a soundrecorder and one of those octopus dishes

    11. Its like eminem was on the moon with all the greats, but now he’s over here with us hasbeens.I was there too,but im over here now with him…And coolio, over here

    12. I hear u dice, atleast we’re in good company.Looking forward to celebratin christmas with u guys and can i bring katt williams?

    13. I’m glad M didn’t do his regular numbers. He sold us out so this is what u get sell out. I guess hip-hop has more power than M thought. Eat shit and die slow wack ass rapper!

    14. The comments on this site has always been horrible, like MTO-esque bad which is the only thing holding this site back IMO. If it were possible to have actual meaningful discussions about Hip Hop that would be amazing but that is currently impossible at the current state.

    15. How are these low numbers wen they are the same with 4:44?? he got that numba 1 spot…and if u think migos or future or drake will do those numbers 22 yrs and 9 albums later u need to put down that lean and play u some Ja rule…If u say Em fell off i guess he landed on his legacy.Em the GOAT…hate it or love…he King. gtfoh with your bs

    16. lol jayz matured on 444 got praised and his flow was R.D flow. Em does and gets mixed reviews (even though i see a lot of people coming around to it)..em gets hated on bc he’s the biggest artist in the WORLD in any genre for years..bc of his worldsmithism..he should realize he will never satisfy everyone including me with his music.. this album was his best since T.E.S..really good album…but it could of used more rap features if ur gonna feature people.

      1. how could you compare 4:44 to this horrendous album…are you deaf? this album is the worst thing i’ve heard in years horrible production, weak content, corny punchlines Eminem needs to hang it up

      2. RD flow? like Reasonable Doubt? The album from 1996? Possibly the dopest rap album of all time? Nope 4:44 was nothing like that…you need your ears checked. 4:44 was elevator music

    17. Eminem said it himself – he tried to please everyone. And what we got was an unadulterated mess of contradictory narrative and what almost sounds like throw-aways for most of the album. I wish Eminem really didn’t give a fuck like he did on the Slim Shady LP/Marshall Mathers LP (and less like Relapse) about the critics and those who’ve always negatively panned his music – it may have resulted in a more cohesive album. And this is coming from a big Eminem fan. The same person that went and picked up not one, but TWO copies of this album when it came out. I’m a big fan of Offended, because I feel like he’s right where he’s best there, and he sounds right at home on that track more than a lot of the other tracks. But this was stacked to the brim with mediocre beats, eye-rolling moments (Most of his tracks about girls), and just nothing resembling anything close to what Eminem’s truly capable of. He’ll always have a fan in me though. Have all his albums to date and I’m still in hopes that he’ll crack out one last gem before the lights dim in the Dresden home.

      1. You cant please everybody – Talib Kweli. Hate that Em didnt get that memo. Anyway, I think Revivals biggest problem more than beats and features (which is more of a personal taste than anything) is the fact that its just too damn long. If it was 12 songs (including the revival) interlude it would be a solid project.

    18. 50 cents new song is better than eanything on this album. To the Extreme by Vanilla Ice shits on this album. I love you Em. But this a garbage

    19. Eminem wasn’t trying to please everybody, on the contrary, he was trying to please a bunch of people who represent a very small percentage of US population (about 2 %). He was trying to please his jevvish handlers ny pushing their anti-white, nation splitting agenda.

      1. Not even close kids now a days don’t even know what a record store is so record sales are pointless. Not to mention Trumps rating is the lowest in U.S history.

        1. But they went out and bought Kendrick and Drake’s albums? Embarrassing attempt my man, your theory is debunked in the actual fucking article you’re commenting on…wow

    20. Em didn’t seem to know who he wanted to be on this album and it sounds the part. It also didn’t help that his first single was a crap pop song with one of the most overrated female voices in the industry. Why tip toe into the room when you could’ve just let loose a track of you spittin bars for four minutes letting the world know you’re back??

    21. Now that Slim Shady has matured b4 the public eyes they want him to stay in that one lane growth is one of the greatest things that happens in your life Em keep evolving rap is stuck in the mud wit with the talentless artist of today

    22. Damn this album is trash!Worst beats ever and those rock samples suck balls.wtf happened?!?Maturing?GTFOH!This album sounds like a pop album from the 90s with those outdated beats!More like an ace of base album than a rap album.Someone should tell him to stick to those raw hip hop beats and the storytelling he was known for,not these raps thats all over the place just for the sake of rapping fast over baaaaad mainstream production.Geeeeeeeeez!

      1. “Ace of Base album” Hahaha! And you right about the fast raps and bad production. Never thought I’d see the day where a fucking Jeezy album would be better than an Eminem album. Well, welcome to 2017/18, SMH.

    23. Who is Eminem and who buys albums in 2016? Google a YouTube converter and spend those extra duckets on drugs and lap dances.

    24. That’s what happens when you draw a line in the sand, and then drop a terrible album afterwards. You played yourself, Em. I’m done with new Shady, Infinite/SSLP/MMLP/Eminem Show will forever be Eminem at his best.

    25. End of an era does make sense even with jay-z as they pointed out with his first week numbers. The youth as a whole isn’t checking for the legends it seems but they still have there core fan base that will support them until they are done. I know I will.

    26. This is what’s happens when you get lazy and don’t put in any work marketing and being interactive with your fan base.

Can’t live off old marketing success forever.

    27. Those streaming numbers would’ve been way higher had it been a dope album. There’s the ones who couldn’t finish listening it all the way through, and the others who heard it once and that’s all it took to never listen to it again, losing streaming numbers

      1. I would have bought Revival the day it came out as I did with every other album, if he could’ve kept his cry baby I hate being white Trump’s the devil political bullshit to himself. Trump won for a reason. All of those voters just told Feminem what we think of his opinion.

        1. Exactly. I would have bought this album, too, if he hadn’t been so pathetic when our PRESIDENT wouldn’t respond to his shitty attempt at political messaging. Didn’t he look at his demographics, before he made such a fool of himself?

    28. The sales drop is nearly identical to Jay’s Magna Carta to 4:44 drop off the later being a far more superior album. Same with MMLP2 vs Revival, which in my opinion is far better balanced. Let’s just give props to these guys staying relevant for so long and deep into their 40’s. It has never been done in hip hop history.

      1. Hit the nail on the head, we should be grateful these guys are still willing to release music after all these years! Still better than Migos lol…

        1. exactly the type of comment i would find in a article with Eminems name on it lol Migos aren’t bad kid… as a matter of fact they’re supposed to be hype rappers cause they didn’t go thru much struggle like Eminem,,, sad to know y’all find talent in people who’ve been thru so much only…

    29. Em, it’s simple. America LOVED you when you wrote edgy shit. Talking about suicide. Killing your baby’s mom. All the STDs you have. Etc. make an album with Hip-Hop Mc’s. Slaughterhouse, Westside Gunn, Royce, D12, Kendrick, Snoop, Xzibit. Shit. Do a song with Rakim and BDK. Get beats from Premiere, Diamond D, Showbiz, Dre, Harry Fraud, etc. then maybe we will give a shit again. Do some acid. Spazz out. America is sick of all this fake Social Justice bullshit. BLM is a joke. It’s racist, statistically proven as false, and overshadows the tea porblems Black Americans Face. Their criminality rate. Their incarceration rate. The fact that they kill eachother hundreds of times more than cops kill them in a year. The fact that nearly 75% of black children grow up without a father… STFU whiteboy. No one wants your millionaire take on how blacks are being oppressed in the hood. You are officially dumber than Kanye. Congrats.

      1. i agree with everything except the topics in the begining ..NOBODY wants to hear em rap about those topics anymore..framed was classic em tho.. i like mature em he just needs to pick better BEATS AND FEATURES ..only person who desert understand this is eminem

    30. Yes never a good idea for artists to go political.Way to much social justice warrior shit going on.Just make music to make people listen and zone out a bit instead of making them feel they’re listening to a young turk podcast.Over bad production i may add

      1. Young Turk podcast!?!? Hahahaha!! Nobody gives a shit what rich AF famous people think about politics. Big Eminem fan. Until this Hillary Clinton love/President Trump hate suck fest.

    31. One of the last really good songs i heard from em was dont front with buckshot because that was a hip hop song, the rest has just been meeeeh and trash.Of course the teens will love it cause they like mainstream shit.they get fed with it.Rapstars today cant be considered hip hop,its popstars at best.Hip hop has gotten so mainstream that the genre is so dumb downed.Just thought eminem was one of the few that could go against the current shitty period were in in hip hop.Youtube brats are even considered hip hop stars today.Sad state, but there are of course a few good ones today, but not many

    32. Hahaha its over. Its time to move on stans. Drake is officially the undisputed king of rap. Drake will outsell the entire rap genre combined next year and prove why from now till he retires he is the god of rap. Feminem flopped hard. At this point its safe to say g eazy is the best white rapper alive thats still relevant.

      1. G Eazy is the best? I assume you mean mainstream best, you’re ignoring the underground. Apathy, Vinnie Paz and Celph Titled are all easily better than G Eazy. Everlast/Whitey Ford is still slaying shit with his new project WarPorn Industries. Shit I forgot Slaine and ILL Bill. I think Celph Titled is half Cuban. That white half is better than anyone mainstream.

    33. Revival > any rap album out this year… Simply put.. Still sells more albums in his first week than these new rappers entire catalogue but you’ll see articles saying he flopped.

    34. Those who says eminem music has evolved hasnt evolved.Cant understand how he could have gone from making classics like mmlp, tes, sslp to this shitty teenybopper albums and a bad teenybopper album on top of that.
