Los Angeles MC ill Camille, who is performing at the Paid Dues festival in September, has dropped a new visual for “Black Gold,” which is taken from her latest album, Heirloom. The video finds the talented lyricist executing her commentary on what it’s like being black in America.
Produced by DJ Battlecat, DdotOmen and Paperboy Fabe, “Black Gold” easily portrays her dedication to the craft. Every word is delivered with precision and a palpable voraciousness.
“I didn’t think too much,” Camille said in a press release. “I said what came to mind and heart. Always. I rather the person listening to the song dissect it. But if I had to sum up the feeling of it, what needs to be taken away most is that— no matter the circumstances, my people, God’s people, gon’ prevail.
Shot in L.A. and directed by Red Carter, the visual depicts dark images of her hometown as she raps about injustice and societal fails. At the same time, she reminds us we are all human. “We all live and die for the same thing,” she raps.
