HipHopDX Premiere: Itâs no secret minimum wage jobs donât support the average family. New York native AmirSaysNothing takes that concept and draws on it for his new video, âEmployee Of The Month,â which tells the story of a working class rapper. The song serves as the title track of his 2016 album, a journey into the life of a hardworking, ambitious young man.
âThis is the bloodline to my album,â Amir tells HipHopDX. âThis sets the stage. Itâs about breaking the status quo and fucking shit up. Iâm beyond happy to see this visual come to life. This is for all my people who used to stay up late and watch the old shows on Nick at Nite. Think of this as âEmployee Of The Monthâ the movie, or the TV show â wake up, get out of your day job and get money for yourself. Itâs about knowing that thereâs something bigger out there.â
Influenced by artists like Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube, Slug from Atmosphere (who shouts him out in the video for âRingoâ) and Killer Mike, who heâs been fortunate enough to build relationships with, Amir uses âEmployee Of The Monthâ as a chance to throw in his two cents. Watch it above.
