Holed up in the Dublab studios on Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles, Jurassic 5 turntablist and music history buff Cut Chemist crafted the latest episode of his A Stable Soundpodcast, which celebrates the life of Clyde “Funky Drummer” Stubblefield. The pioneering drummer passed away on February 18 of this year and in his honor, the twelfth edition of the podcast finds Cut Chemist cutting up records from Tee & Jazzy Joyce, James Brown, Run-DMC, Poison Ladd SLR, Beats In General and, of course, Public Enemy along with longtime friend/collaborator Edan.

“Clyde changed Hip Hop forever with his drum patterns,” Cut tells HipHopDX. “‘Funky Drummer’ was indeed the most inspirational. He was the most sampled drummer in Hip Hop and shaped its rhythm patterns throughout the ’80s and ’90s.”

Check out the nearly two-hour lesson in soul, funk, jazz and Hip Hop above.
