Last night at TIDAL X: 1015 at Barclay’s Center (yes, the same one that Beyonce shrugged off her bloody ear) Ms. Lauryn Hill showed up on time to Jay Z’s streaming service’s second annual philanthropic festival and killed it while premiering a new version of her single, “Rebel,” exclusively on TIDAL.
“Old tune, new Version, same context, even more relevant now: sick and tired of being sick and tired,” the Fugees nucleus said of the updated record. The original song was inspired by the senseless killing of Amadou Diallo, the African immigrant who was shot nearly 20 times in 1999 after New York Police Department officers had a knee-jerk reaction to him revealing his wallet*.
Although there is no reported album on the horizon, the sultry and powerful “Rebel/I Find It Hard To Say” has boosted the content from Ms. Lauryn Hill that has been exclusively premiered on TIDAL, which includes TIDAL X Diaspora Calling and the Diaspora Calling.
Absorb the six-minute exhilarting experience up above and tweet Lauryn to tell her how much you love it.

*Fun Fact: Wyclef Jean also created his own Amadou Dillao tribute for his 2000 album, The Ecleftic.
