The Game’s “The Documentary 2” First Week Sales Projections

The Game released The Documentary 2 Friday (October 9) a decade after his debut album, The Documentary.

Hits Daily Double projects that the album will rank second on the Billboard Top 200 album sales chart, following Selena Gomez’ Revival, which has the track “Good For You” featuring A$AP Rocky. The site says that The Game will sell between 75,000 and 85,000 total album units including streams. It predicts that the singer’s album will see between 85,000 and 95,000 in sales.

The Compton, California emcee has had three albums reach the top of the chart, The Documentary in 2005, Doctor’s Advocate in 2006 and The R.E.D. Album in 2011.

      1. nah its all good….you just want something what will never happen…rap changed, forget about westcoast beats. this is new world hiphop and The Game Doc2 stands to its name. I like Doc2

      2. Nah…not a flop. Since hes on his own label now, he gets more of the cut being independent. So he can half half the sales and still make more money.

Sales dont matter in hip hop anymore. Nobodys buying CDs anymore when you can find the music free.

      3. How is it a flop? It’s the #2 album in the country after mega pop star Selena Gomez and their sales figures are pretty damn close.

    1. Flip? How can you judge the project on how many unit’s it moves? Judge it on the content and quality foo! Doc 2 is fire and 2.5 is even better!

      1. If it’s a fire albums the #s will bak it it up THE #S DONT LIE.. U can judge by content but ultimately NO 1 CARES IF U GOT A HOT ALBUM IF IT AINT MOVING UNITS…if the album sales are low it will be considered a FLOP.. RAPPERS MAKE ALBUMS 2 GET PAID. ..ITS REALLY NOT ABOUT THE MUSIC ANYMORE. ..ITS ALL ABOUT THE MIGHTY DOLLAR!

    2. Game rode the wave of success that came with his feud with the mega-popular 50 Cent in the mid-2000s and thus sold a bunch of records on his first two albums. Times have changed. If your names not Drake, then these numbers are ‘OK’

I think Game hurt himself by hopping on to trends. This really started after ‘The Red Album’ in 2011. Notice how he had numerous features on every album following that album. Rolling with MMG and Cash Money hurt him . . . . he copied the hot flows at the time to stay relevant when he should have been consistent.

I still bump the original Documentary from time to time, but don’t listen to much if anything from game post-2010

      1. Then why are you commenting on a rapper’s music you do not even listen too. Like nothing you say makes sense because it’s clearly bias….and to top it all off you took time out of your boring life to make a comment on music you dont listen to and a rapper you most likely dont respect..you are the epitome of a hater….get a life go comment on music you actually listen too! UGH people stop not everyone need to comment…sheesh

    3. Flop? How can you judge the project on how many unit’s it moves? Judge it on its content and quality foo! Doc 2 is fire and doc 2.5 is even better. Legendary rapper

    4. The Doc 2 is independent, going against a pop artist whose music is on the radio allday. Great first week and great rap album!

    5. These numbers are good for Game. Not everyone is as talented and respected as Drake, so it’s unrealistic for people to hope that he even comes close to Drake numbers. I mean take Kenny Lamar, most mainstream hipster publications like Pitchfork talk about Kenny as if he’s some sort of Black Messiah, Black and White folks alike eat that shit up and he still can’t reach the numbers that Drake does. This was a great album Game, you should be proud.

      1. Always got to be a bitch nigga talking shit and hating on Kendrick and of course, it’s from a Drake stan. FOH. Guess what? EVERY publication praised him.

    6. Game, well done! I love the album. You always hold it down and also don’t give a fu#k bout the shitty comments cause those dudes can’t do what you can do.

    7. You guys are funny. Game clowns Lloyd Banks for selling 55k the first week (independent as well) and he flopped but game is on track to sell 60k and it’s a sucess lol I dont get you guys at all. Doc 2 is solid work but don’t be a hypocrite Game:)

      1. The difference between you and the other people is you do your homework and you know the TRUTH other people just talk…

    8. Thanks for sharing these projections

      1. I like Lloyd Banks so this isn’t a biased comment, but HFM2 dropped 5 years ago and sold at least 15K less than Game’s minimum projection. The Game’s 2008 album sold 240K first week. The climate for both physical and digital sales has changed drastically in the last 5 years. Case and point – Selena Gomez who is one of the biggest pop stars in the country is only poised to sell roughly 10K albums more on a major with a charting single. This is a great look for Game. He may end up doing similar numbers on disc 2 as well

    9. Relax I think his decision to split the album fucked sales up..everyone is waiting for disc 2 because most people downloaded the leak of disc 1 already

    10. Gotta love it when these commenters play records execs. I could care less about record sales. Is the record good? ok, cool.

    11. Best in the West right now. Smart marketing on the double disc too. This is probably my 3rd favorite out of all of his [ so far] . Only the first “Documentary”, and the “Doctors Advocate” we’re slightly better. Love the lyrics and collaborations however in this one. Huge names, different styles of rap incorporated, and stories. Talking about past, present, and future issues. He illustrates his ability to appeal to different topics. Plus you couldn’t ask for better producers/ artists on these 2 albums. Timbaland, Pharell, K-Dot, Drake, Lil Wayne, Dre, Snoop, Fergie, Diddy, Kanye West, exc…. He might have some feuds with people, but nobody can put a list like that together on their album. He certainly didn’t burn the wrong bridges.
