Scott Storch Out Hits Mannie Fresh In Instagram Live Beat Battle

As quarantine rages on, Instagram battles continue to be a gift that keeps on giving. This time around, multi-platinum super-producer Scott Storch (set initially to battle T-Pain) faced the original architect of the Cash Money Records sound, Mannie Fresh.

The 20-round battle saw the two producers smack each other around with endless flame emojis.
Organized by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, this battle in particular sported a major upgrade: scorekeeping by DDot Omen.

“Swizz saw my commentary during the Sean Garrett  vs. The Dream battle,” DDot tells HipHopDX of how he got involved, adding that his detailed breakdown of the Ne-Yo and Johnta Austin battle eventually earned him the role.

Ultimately, according to the scoreboard, Scott Storch came away with the dubya. While Mannie went hard, scoring a draw in at least five rounds, Storch had more hits under his belt.

One of the biggest highlights, aside from Storch randomly playing keys throughout (notably on Roddy Rich’s “Down Below” and The Roots’ “You Got Me”), was the smack talk. Mannie had a multitude of interludes ranging from low-key hilarious to disrespectful — referencing his past issues with addiction that once saw him squander $30 million in six months.

At one point, Storch looked right at the camera and remarked, “You have skits, but you don’t have hits.”

After the battle — which topped 200,000 viewers — Storch created yet another moment by previewing a brand new song from his album featuring Tyga and Ozuna, the “New King of Reggaeton.”

This is just the latest in a string of battles that appears to have been the brainchild of Timbaland and Swizz. It’s a wave that Tim noted in an IG Live with Storch in late March was poised to shift culture.

“We doin’ this for the culture, we startin’ something,” he said. We startin’ a whole culture movement.”

      1. I don’t understand the knock for his co-production. That’s like discrediting Pharrell for his Neptunes work. These superproducers found a way to bolster their sound on particular songs and he’s responsible for the final product just as well as anyone else who worked on the record.

        1. Its because Scott is white and people cant believe a white guy can make better rap beats then a black man. Its calles denial. Its pretty simple Trent

          1. You incels are hilarious. It has nothing to do with race you little lonely virgin. It’s Scott Storch acting like HE has all the hits relative to Mannie Fresh when Scott did his songs with super producers and Mannie did his alone.

            1. Its well known Scott came up with melodies and played them on his piano. Dre might make it sound better but Scott laid the foundation on most of their work together.

            2. In hip hop the ugly not very well kept secret has always been that often while the underlings do the actual production the big name gets the glory. So unless you were there when the production took place you don’t know how much of the production pie chart goes to the “co-writer” or unnamed and how much to the big name.

          2. Scott Storch is not white he is jooish. He probably wishes he was white, that’s why he had all the plastic surgery to try to look less jooish.

    1. Mannie should have won on bling bling, 400 degreez, and Get your roll on. It wouldn’t have gave him the win but those were easy calls imo. This is my first time checking this out and I like it! It’s good to see guys in Hip hop having good competitive fun without all the negative stuff.

    2. Dope battle and less rambling than the Swizz/Timbo battle. You can’t really crown someone based on record sales. You crown them on whose music you feel more. I wanna hear more 90s shit like Beatnuts vs Large Pro, Pete Rock vs Primo…Man, I remember the mid 90s when Dre and Primo were runnin shit. They could battle so I could relive the Golden Era.

      1. look it up,, Storch and Dre worked together also w/ Mike Elanzo. A lot of Dres Beats were actually Co-Created w/ Storch and or elanzo..
