Salt-N-Pepa To Receive Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Salt-N-Pepa have been a decorated force in the music industry for 30-plus years and the Grammy-winning duo will now be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On Tuesday (October 25), the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce made the announcement that Salt-N-Pepa (Cheryl James and Sandra Denton) will receive the 2,739th star and a commemorative ceremony is slated to take place on the morning of November 4.

“We are honored and excited,” the trailblazing NYC-bred duo wrote on Instagram earlier this week.

Per Billboard, the star is going to be located on Hollywood BLVD. near Amoeba Music and other reports state that it’s actually going to be planted next to Missy Elliott‘s, who received the honor last year.

“What a Blessing to be beside Salt & Pepa who inspired me to Rap,” Missy wrote. “My sisters for over 2 Decades! & they took a lot of Criticism coming in this game to make the female emcees after them walk through the door a lot easier Thank you S&P RESPECT.”

Salt-N-Pepa returned the favor as the respect is mutual, writing: “Our stars being beside each other makes it all the more special. Your sisterhood and friendship is such a blessing. Thank you @missymisdemeanorelliott.”

MC Lyte and Roxanne Chante are slated to serve as guest speakers at the ceremony, which will be livestreamed on the Walk of Fame website.

“This upcoming star ceremony honoring Hip Hop pioneers Salt-N-Pepa will honor the amazing 80s music we all love and so many grew up with!” said Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez in a statement. “We’re placing these ladies of Hip Hop royalty adjacent to Amoeba Music and right next to the Walk of Fame star of another Queen of Hip Hop, Missy Elliott!”

Salt-N-Pepa became the first female rappers to win a Grammy Award in 1985, when “None of Your Business” took home the gong for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

Other accolades include breaking down additional barriers for women in Hip Hop when their hit record “Push It” cracked the Hot 100’s Top 40 in 1985, which was a first for female rappers at the time.

    1. They were alright. A lot better than these so called female rappers today. But what I don’t understand is why Eazy E and NWA don’t have a star yet. Cube and Dre wouldn’t be where they are today without Eazy. Not only that. Eazy was the first music mogul with his own radio show and speakers. He started
Will I AM’s Career, Bone, and a few others who went platinum. He a one of the biggest independent distribution deals for an independent with Sony. He had a NWA movie in the works. Hollywood need to pay credit where credit do. And like it or not, “Straight Outta Compton” didn’t do that.
