Offset is the latest rapper to weigh in on JAY-Z‘s lyrical talents, dubbing Hov the greatest rapper of all time.
In a recent interview with Complex as part of their GOAT Talk series, the Migos rapper said no one can touch Jigga’s lyrical power.
“I gotta say Hov, all his shit is platinum,” Offset said. “You know sometimes the success is the reason why people say he’s the greatest of all time, what he did after rap. Bro, on rap you can’t play with him since the beginning of time.
“He always had the biggest records, he always got the biggest people and did the biggest records and he still come back and make impactful records right now.”
He continued, “If Jay do a verse right now, everybody wanna hear just what the man saying, only 12 bars. You know what I’m saying? ‘Cause he’s knowledgeable, and then he’s so up but his flows be so relatable to the struggle. He might tweak something and say something to let you know he poppin’, but then you got the verse where he talk to the culture.”
Check out Offset’s G.O.A.T. conversation below:
Offset is hardly the first person to deem JAY-Z the greatest to ever pick up the microphone. Lil Wayne, Wale, Cordae and Pusha T are just a few of the dozens of rappers that have given Hov his flowers over the years.
His lyrical prowess was once again a talking point back in August, when he rapped a colossal 80-bar firestorm on DJ Khaled‘s “GOD DID” track that had the internet once again referring to Jay as the G.O.A.T. rapper.
While many deemed the verse to be one of JAY-Z’s greatest, Lupe Fiasco and Charlamagne Tha God were among a few who said it was impossible to rank Hov’s verses.
“I think that’s what’s amazing people,” Charlamagne said on The Breakfast Club at the time. “‘Cause to me, the verse is really great, but here’s the thing. JAY-Z is really great. He’s been consistently really great for a long time so when people say, ‘Oh my God! This is one of Hov’s greatest verses of all time!’ It’s like, of course it is. Hov has got a bunch of verses that are his greatest of all time, and that’s why he’s considered the greatest of all time.”
Elsewhere in the sitdown with Complex, host Speedy Mormon also deemed Jay’s Reasonable Doubt to be the G.O.A.T. rap album, and Offset mentioned hat he had sent along three songs to André 3000, after claiming him to be the best rapper from Atlanta.
“André, I done sent you three songs,” Set said. “I know you gotta like certain songs — he get on certain songs, he told me. So you gotta be selective with him, but I love his taste.”
Offset is currently hard at work on his forthcoming solo album following the apparent breakup of his platinum-selling group Migos. He’s released numerous singles in recent months to get fans excited for the project, including “Big 14” with Moneybagg Yo and Trippie Redd, the Baby Keem-produced “54321” and “Code,” which also features Moneybagg Yo.
The Jiggerman is indeed The G.O.A.T. no question about it! That song he (Jay-Z) did with Mary J. Blige called “can’t knock the hussle, classic!!!” 2 times for Offset for acknowledging that tho family.
Naw Jay ain’t the G.O.A.T. but he is certainly up there I can’t deny that, but sometimes his music does not have any substance. I like dude and women who a bit more knowledge consistently: RAKIM ALLAH, NASIR THE GOD, TUPAC, BIG DADDY KANE, KOOL G-RAP, SLICK RICK, KRS-1, MC LYTE, JEAN GRAE, IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE. All these rappers kept it 100% for the culture, whereas a lot of these rappers just doing it for the money I need some mental food for thought. Just my opinion 100%.
And of course definitely can’t leave out my man COMMON, now that’s a real conscious rapper indeed.
Nas played with him though.
Pac the Goat. Nobody outworked him. His catalog speaks for himself and nobody accomplished that at 25 years. This site always gotta keep reminding us about Jay-z just shows its paid for promotion. The music stands the test of time. Pac is undeniably the best ever.
Jay not the goat. Just because he has achieved things outside of music, it doesn’t mean he is the best rapper. His discography is weaker than people pretend… since black album, he’s dropped a total garbage album in kingdom come, followed it up with a good album American gangster that if it dropped today would be slated for going back artistically (or whatever they say) as he dropped that drug dealer album like 8 months after dropping 30 something (wtf) then after AG we have BP3 which was garbage except an Alicia keys hook, then MCHG which also was garbage, and only successful because he sold like 500k copies to Samsung or something, and then after this he takes a little break, and drops 4.44, a snoozefest album that people pretended to like (streaming numbers back me up, 0 longevity) about a made up affair. And this is the goat? Please
You sure invested a whole essay and emotion for someone who isn’t The Greatest? you’re a huge fan and you don’t know it yet
This is true Facts. All these haters have alot of Info about someone they not a fan of….
Dam bro u sound jealous. I didn’t even see where some asked your opinion honestly. Furthermore you listened to all his albums. Even did some research on numbers. You sound a little obsessed as well. If he came to you right now and said let’s be friends you would so jump on the D and roll out. Lmao good day sir. Ri
This obsession with Jay-Z and the whole GOAT discussion is getting lame. I don’t deny that Jay is somewhere amongst the best rappers but I always felt that there are a lot of rappers that can rap circles around him.
Sure he made a lot of money with his music and made smart business moves. Which is easier if you already have money. Anyway, thats all fine but does that make him the best rapper? Like his verse on that new Khaled album. It was alright when we talk about content but the delivery was lame for the most part. After Reasonable Doubt he didn’t really progress with his skills.
I honestly didn’t go back to a Jay album in years, that means there are probably some other great rappers. If you ask me, no one is THE best. If we measure everything with money, maybe Jay is..yeah. Or was it Kanye?
If we talking record sales = Eminem
If we talking impact = 2pac
If we talking respect = Biggie
If we talking skills = Nas
Kendrick will overtake Jay but Jay top atm
Jay Z is not the GOAT. Nas is a way better MC than Jay. Beat him in that beef. 2 Pac was the best to ever do it. Pac had hundreds of unreleased songs. Nobody can touch Pac’s work ethic. I wouldn’t even put Jay in my top 20 of all time. So many better rappers than Jay Z.
Nas lost that beef ain’t nothing Nas said equal half of wat jay said on super ugly
Jay-Z the GOAT? How he the goat when he be stealing bars forever? Cam’ron already debunked that.
True,. You can’t play with Jay-Z. He doesn’t understand Catch Me If You Can, and he can’t even play hide and seek.
I don’t even by JZ music, why bye it when I can here it free on utub
