In promotion of his new single, Nas has partnered with Pantone Color Institute to create the color “Ultra Black By Nas.” With the partnership comes new merch, which includes tees, coasters, a custom deck of cards and more. A portion of proceeds will go to charity.
“It was only right that we work with Pantone on this project, the color experts,” Nas said in a post on Instagram. “This one’s from the heart, something the world will feel, the whole vibe of 2020.”
“Utlra Black” was released on August 14 and immediately had Twitter talking because of the Doja Cat diss it included.
“Cash Money with the white tee and the soldier rag/We goin’ ultra black, unapologetically black/The opposite of Doja Cat, Michael Blackson black,” Nas raps on the song.
The Los Angeles artist was seemingly unfazed and reacted by being silly on TikTok.
“I’m so offended and upset by this song,” Doja said in a clip as she played “Ultra Black” in the background. “Have you guys heard ‘Fruit Salad’ by The Wiggles?”
Doja was accused of allegedly laughing at racist jokes and other questionable things in racist chatrooms back in May. An old song of hers titled “Dindu Nuffin” was also uncovered, with “dindu” being a racial slur against Black victims of police brutality often found in chatrooms. The “Say So” rapper addressed the moment on Instagram and denied being racist or self-hating. Despite the backlash toward her at the time, it was actually Nas who people came for this time, with people feeling like he was picking on a woman when there are men who have done and said much worse.
Talking to Los Angeles’ Power 106 on Saturday (August 22), however, Nas clarified he meant nothing by it.
“I just was really saying a rhyme that rhymed with ‘ultra black’,” he said. “I rhymed that word with ‘ultra black,’ I didn’t even think of it. It’s all love, it’s all love, you know what I’m sayin’? It was like ‘Michael Blackson black.'”

The song’s producer Hit-Boy was also on the interview and added, “It literally is, Doja Cat’s the opposite of Michael Blackson. That’s how I looked at it.”
“It’s bars. It’s lines,” Nas added. “We play with words, man.”
“Ultra Black” serves as a lead-in to Nas’ new album King’s Disease, which dropped on Friday (August 20). Stream the project below.
