Many found it odd when Q-Tip called Atlanta trio Migos “Tha Truth” on Twitter earlier this month and now, followers of the legendary producer have had something else unexpected come across their timelines.
According to Q-Tip’s Twitter, Lil Wayne has become the newest member of The Zulu Nation.
“@LilTunechi is now a member of the ZULU NATION! Join us wearezulunation@gmail.com,” he said in the first tweet. “Help me in welcoming @LilTunechi to fold of the Zulus.” Wayne has yet to publicly comment on his involvement with the group or explain the reasoning for joining.
Tip has been one of the group’s most vocal members during the last few years. He also has had an album in the works for quite some time entitled The Last Zulu.
The Universal Zulu Nation is an organization created by Hip Hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa. The goal of the group is to use Hip Hop to spread awareness of social and political issues. Other members of the famed collective include KRS-One, De La Soul, Public Enemy, Rakim, Ice Cube, DJ Kool Herc.

UPDATE: In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Zulu Nation member 9th Wonder discusses Lil Wayne’s membership in the organization.
“Dwayne Carter, also known to the world as Lil Wayne, is a member and an Ahki (which means ‘brother’) in the Universal Zulu Nation founded in 1973 by Afrika Bambaataa—a former gang member of the Black Spades,” 9th Wonder says in an interview that premiered in the DX Daily today (December 1). “This decision was made by Zulu King Q-Tip (of A Tribe Called Quest) and Zulu King 9th Wonder. Deal with it.”

PAUL MEARA PLEASE GO KILL YOSELF
Step your trollgame up son.
Did Q-Tip fall down and bump his head? First the Migos cosign and now Weezy in the Zulu Nation? Seems backwards.
i need to do this to stay relevant
Lil Wayne has actually made some great politically-minded songs. If this encourages him to do more in that vein, good.
Shut dafuq up!
It’s not April Fools Day, Tip.
What does Wayne have to offer? I don’t see Wayne changing his direction in music, and I can’t see Wayne dropping knowledge in future interviews. Is this the next publicity stunt since his rock career failed, and his rap appeal is dwindling (as in, he is no longer the most popular)?
Big ups to son if he really gonna represent that shit, but if he just joining to make him seem more “credible” then fuck em.to be honest that muthafucka ain’t dropped nuthin of worth in years.

Have a safe Xmas my niggaz, spread love bitch
I think I’m done with conscious Hip Hop.
LMAO HAHA a sign the world is ending
Uh-oh. Get ready for some real knowledge. lol
I was actually a big fan of Wayne when he spit some real and conscious shit, songs like Fuck tha world, Million and one things with the hot boys, tie my hands, Georgia, misunderstood, everything, dirty world, Dear Anne, I’m sure there are more but yeah this dude has a creative mind and yes some songs are wack but for the most part he makes good music, and that’s one way he is better then Em in my mind now, Em is stuck on some robotic sounding flow since Recovery on everything he does it’s lyrically amazing but he seems to have lost his song writing and creative touch. Wayne and even 50 still impress me with how they can create, switch flows, sounds and go with themes or whatever.
For real Georgia Bush is one of the best rap songs ever, not just southern rap I’m talking about rap period
I suggest you to listen these songs to man : One night only, do it again, tha mobb, hustler musik, the recipe,mr carter, president carter, paradice,i know the future, trouble, something you forgot..list goes on and on..
Take your time and thank me latter 🙂
lil wayne went to jail for having a gun at the age of 26, despite having been rich since his teenage years, he couldnt get a fucking permit. he also knocked up three girls in one year. he has already set a terrible example for the black community, i hope he tries to undo all of that.
I just see one of the greatest of all times trying to bridge the wide gap in hip hop.
Oh, I mean q-tip when I said one of the greatest of all times, not Lil Wayne.
you sure he is trying to close that gap, or trying to hop over to the other side.. i grew up with that ol Zulu Nation.. i cant believe what i am reading. i think more than anything he is trying to stay relevant..why, you have Lupe, Rapsody, Cole, Kendrick, and def Ab Soul just to name a few that would be very welcome into the Zulu Nation and you pick Weezy??? smh this is worst than Busta busting his ass
Yo, if we wouldn’t have gave Detroit Red a chance we would’ve never new lil wayne, I mean Malcolm..
One 1ne hand, I applaud the effort and step toward betterment and improvement of oneself. Hey for whut ever reason(s), go for it. But I hope its for the right reason(s). PLUS, Wayne is a trendsetter and people follow. I hope this move doesn’t cause The Zulu Nation to become the next social club where we see a mass movement of people trying to gain membership…for all the wrong reasons. But then again, this could go the total opposite and be a positive. Time will only tell…

GOOD WORK WAYNE, LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THE GOOD SHIT THE ZULU NATION HAS DONE OVER THE YEARS.
crickets
wow
why?
Fuck Zulu nation. Selling their principle for relevance! Fuck hip hop!
nah nigga nah
Lil Wayne the only nigga in history to be a member of the Bloods, The Zulu Nation, a skateboarder, a wannabe rock star all while kissing men on the lips.
Man, I dig Lil Wayne’s intentions but they’re going to kill him.
The Zulu Nation is about the culture first. Wayne is on one end of the broad spectrum of Hip Hop. Kill yourself if you don’t like it.
bunch of lames preaching bullshit…
