Latto Crowned Top Female Rapper Of 2022 By ‘Billboard’

Latto has been crowned Billboard‘s Top Female Rap Artist and the Top New R&B/Hip-Hop Artist of 2022, thanks to the success of her single “Big Energy.”

The song itself topped three year-end charts, landing at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales, Rap Digital Song Sales and Rhythmic Airplay Songs lists.

The lead single from Latto’s sophomore album 777, “Big Energy” debuted at No. 88 on the Billboard Hot 100 a little over a year ago. Mariah Carey’s co-sign on the DJ Khaled-assisted remix, released in April, pushed the song to No. 3 on the Hot 100 chart, becoming Latto’s first top 10 hit.

The single went on to keep Latto in a Top 40 position on the weekly chart for 37 consecutive weeks.

Powered by the success of “Big Energy,” 777 peaked at the No. 15 position on the Billboard 200 chart and at the No. 8 position on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

Latto’s commercial success has led to a number of accolades during this banner career year. “Big Energy” nabbed Song Of The Year at the 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards, and was also nominated at the MTV Video Music Awards and the American Music Awards.

The 23-year-old Atlanta rapper was also nominated  for Top Rap Female Artist, Best Female Hip Hop Artist and Favorite Female Artist at the Billboard Awards, BET Awards and AMAs, respectively. She took home the BET Award for Best New Artist.

Next up for the Queen of da Souf are the 2023 Grammy Awards, where she is again nominated for Best New Artist and has earned a Best Melodic Rap Performance nomination for her breakout single.

While she has yet to announce plans for a follow-up to 777, Latto is staying active. On Friday (December 2), she delivered her latest single “FTCU” featuring GloRilla.

The track, which samples Three 6 Mafia‘s “Tear Da Club Up” and “Mafia N-ggaz” also lists Gangsta Boo as a featured artist.

    1. OMG THE TOP FEMALE!!!! so she’s 100 on the actual list. women want equality but always gotta separate. kinda like some others i know. im amazed you guys didn’t report that kanye was the first black man to talk about hitler to alex jones. surely that should of been a headline.

    2. I hate how ever female rapper of today’s generation poses like a cheap hooker in vegas. I had respect for the TRUE female rappers like Lady Of Rage. They weren’t about selling sex and image. They could actually spit amazingly well, and were about emceeing, not chasing controversy and clicks.
