Kodak Black Trolls ’90s Hip Hop Fans By Mocking JAY-Z Lyrics

Kodak Black joined the crop of younger artists and fans trolling ’90s Hip Hop heads on Tuesday (December 12). In an Instagram post, the polarizing artist mocked the memes comparing the content of different generations of rappers by posting some shallow JAY-Z lyrics from the 1998 single “Money, Cash, Hoes.” Kodak juxtaposed it with bars from his emotional “Can I” track.

“Real Shit B Goin On,” he wrote in the caption. “None Of Dat Hopscotch Shit.”

The lyrics from Hov’s hook on “Money, Cash, Hoes” are simplistic and all about the most stereotypical subject matters that get criticized in rap. Meanwhile, Kodak’s track is one of his most nuanced and heartfelt records.

“Can I” appeared on Kodak’s Lil B.I.G. Pac mixtape, which already featured a title trolling ’90s rap fans. So, it’s no shock to see him playing with the emotions of Hip Hop heads once again and lighting another fire in the generational divide.

Check out the #DXBreakdown on Hip Hop’s generation gap below.

      Kodak
      Bars is weak

    2. I fuck with kodak but hes wrong on this one….90’s or late 90’s rap mainstream wise destroys todays generation of rap lyricaly…back then rap was about being poetic and expressing yourself and your surrounding thru lyrics on fairly simple beats now its more about expressing yourself thru simple lyrics to set a place and an idea of the situation and having complex beats and flows and a vibe and persona to go with it they are almost 2 different genres…but i guess look at rock metal country and all other genres they literaly have DOZENS of sub genres due to being an older genre now raps finaly making its way into sub genres other than horror shock or satirical rap…so in other words the old raps practicaly gone unless you dig into the underground…

        1. Um…anything by DJ mustard I would say is a simple beat. Then you see more complex shit with Dre, Dilla, Flying Lotus, etc…

          1. DJ Mustard has only been active for a few years. Dre and Dilla began in the 80s and 90s respectively so… that contradicts the claim that beats today are complex in contrast to the simple beats of the past.

    3. Negro please! you the Simpsons looking character, mumblin ass fool lol. Put a verse vrs verse comparison. Jay we’ll listen too years from now Reasonable doubt a hip hop classic, ur shit we’ll forget about in a year Kodak dumb

    4. He thought he had sumthin there lmao, nicca compared his verse to the chorus. Almost but not quite u clown, like someone said “compare his verse to Jay verse” in that song & let’s see what’s up. Lmao

    5. DX ( Justin Ivey). this is a superficial article. You attempted to lionize Kodak while castrating Jay-z.
have you ever listened to any of Jay-Z’s songs? this article is indicative of the generation gap in rap. lack of education and uniformed lost souls

      1. No, he’s just pointing out that all these people that shit on current hip hop forget about the jiggy era and the fact that, just like now, mostly retarded commercial songs got radio play in the 90s and all the dope shit was underground. Most people that argue rap was better are kids that didn’t live through the 90s.

    6. Let me get this straight, this Fugly J*ckass comparing a HOOK to a VERSE? And a party song to an introspective track? This article is as stupid as Kodak “Music.” Let’s try another comparison:

“As sure as this Earth is turnin’
Souls burnin’ in search of higher learnin’
Turnin’ in every direction, seekin’ direction
My mom’s cryin’, because her insides are dyin’
Her son tryin’ her patience, keep her heart racin’
A million beats a minute, I know I push you to your limit
But it’s this game Love, I’m caught up all in it” -Jay Z, Regrets

“Man, I’m feeling like I’m Diddy
      Kodak photogenic
      Paparazzi panoramic
I just woke up in a Bentley, Benny pop a wheelie
Christian Loub Bentley Benny’s Rollin tailor fitted
Time is money so don’t call me, I ran out of minutes” -Kodak Wack

See how easy that is to do? Please Jump off a bridge!

    7. This just makes me want to go and listen to Vol. 2 and remember when music had substance “While y’all player hate we in the upper millions, What’s the dealings? It’s like New York’s been soft ever since Snoop came through and crushed the buildings”

    8. you guys dont get it back in the day they used to put a lil wayne hook and a og artist best verse and compare it as if a hook to a verse is even close to comparing.

    9. Why does HHDX delete comments, nothing offensive, racist, derogatory is even being said. I never understand how i’m not able to post but yet racist trolls thrive in the comments??

    10. damn Kodak is so wack Jay cant even bother.I know Jay z looking at this shit then yawn and be like “Yo B can u make me sum sweet coffee please…and for Blue too “

    11. Who the fuck is kodak black? This guy is another weak ass rapper from the rap years 2000-2018. I’m not a fan of jay-z either but jay would murder this bubble gum rapper. I hate these corporation rappers that think they have skills. Lil kodak thinks he is good because the radio plays his dumb shit. Once the radio is tired of stupid ass lil kodak will die because he was never good but so called hot. Hip hop artists can survive without the radio because their good not just so called hot. Rappers will die because they have no skills. LONG LIVE HIP HOP MUSIC! DEATH TO THE rap YEARS 2000- 2018!

    12. So what this moron is trying to do is talk shit about one of the dopest collaborations in the 90s? Money, Cash, Hoes is harder than any other variation of the words that you can try to come up with Kodak Black. I have never heard of this dudes music. Your garbage. WHAT!

    13. all you old heads and “real hip hop” heads used to do the same shit. don’t cry now. “oh, he’s comparing his verse to a hook, wah, wah”. really, because i remember you guys would compare some “deep” and “meaningful” rap verse from the 90s to desiigner’s hook for “panda” or even before then, a lil wayne hook or soulja boy hook. stop the double standards and hypocritical bullshit.

        1. if you don’t have anything to counteract my argument, then maybe you should stfu! you know i’m right, that’s why you butthurt, old man.

      1. :)) ur idiot !!! everytime u write comments here i just cant stop laughing !! ur comments are stupid and ignorant

    14. Lil kodak black is a no talented ass just like the rest of these rappers in the last 20 years. Once the radio moves on to something else, kodak and the rest of his sorry ass rappers will die. They can’t last without the radio because their not good but so called hot by the corporations. Hip hop artists are good and hot without radio that’s why they will survive. LONG LIVE HIP HOP MUSIC AND DEATH TO THE rap YEARS 2000- 2018!

    15. I cant recall Hov, Nas, Pac, BIG disrespecting Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Melly Mel, NWA etc…..this generation now has no respect or morals cuz….i give everybody a chance…its a lot of good artist out tgis generation too tho…i.e. Joey Bada$$ & Pro Era, Odd Future, Dave East….but its always the trash buls talkin jizz…smfh

    16. Kodak can be the new king. But you got to go at boosie. And start making songs that we can understand all the words.and get your beats up.Almost there.
