Kelis isn’t backing down from the droves of Beyoncé fans taunting her over the “Milkshake” sample being removed from the Renaissance album.
Hours after Beyoncé scrubbed the “la la la la la” part from the song “Energy,” a proud cardholder of the BeyHive called Kelis a “cry baby” and asked her if she was happy it was omitted.
“Yes I am actually. lol nobody cried,” she replied.
When another person suggested she should be grateful Beyoncé included her 2003 hit, she said: “And that’s why you are you and thank God I am me lol.”
But Kelis wasn’t done there. Another Beyoncé fan told her she should return to making BBQ sauce, to which she replied: “Oh absolutely lol #winning.”
Another took a jab at her hair: “Music career dead just like your edges [bee emojis].” Kelis snapped back with: “lol my edges? Lol I’m like Rapunsal in this bitch. Oooh you mad lol.”
Kelis accused Beyoncé and “Energy” producer Pharrell Williams of “theft” shortly after the album arrived on July 29. In fact, she believed Pharrell — who, along with production partner Chad Hugo, produced a lot of Kelis’ early material — did it out of spite due to their unresolved issues.
‘This is really not about Beyoncé,” she said in an Instagram video. “[…] I said what I said. So, still all facts. There’s a lot of hypocrisy and a lot of nonsense. So we’ve got Pharrell who did an interview I think last year talking about artists rights and how how people should be able to rework their deals and artists should be getting credit for what they’ve done and all this stuff.
“When in reality, when I was signed to him, I had the same manager that he had and he has writing credits on my records, all my singles, and he never wrote a song, a lyric a day in his life. And yeah, that’s a problem.”
On Tuesday (August 2), fans noticed the Kelis sample had been removed from the versions available on TIDAL, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music and other digital streaming platforms. Beyoncé was also forced to edit the word “spaz” from her single “Heated” for using “ableist” language.
Meanwhile, Khia has been very vocal about her criticism of Beyoncé’s new album, claiming the former Destiny’s Child singer is trying to put a spell on everyone with Renaissance.
“Is this bitch is trying to put a spell on everybody in the world, including the children, with this tired ass album?” Khia says at the start of the clip. “We’ve been on lockdown for three damn years and this all you could come up with.”
Khia’s voodoo-filled rant — which hears her refer to Renaissance as a “flop” — also includes her calling Bey out for “stealing” a number of samples on the album.
I personally don’t like Kelis because of how she has used a kid to extort and try bleed Nas dry over the years even though she doesn’t need anywhere near that kind of money to raise a child. On the other hand though I do believe that if somebody is stupid enough not to clear a sample of your own material then you 100% have the right to be pissed about that and in your legal rights to have it removed or be compensated for it
The sample was cleared. Kelis, like many other artists, don’t own their music.
I could give you 10 high fives. How in the heck can Kelli’s get mad and she did not write nor own the music. I’m sure other artists have said something but she was silent. Wtf. Own something before you can say something.
They absolutely cleared it she just wasnt contacted because she doesnt own any of the master. They removed the sample because she was crying about it.
If it was cleared, it was paid for. If you paid for it, then you can do what you want with it. Regardless of what ever crybaby throws a tantrum. This was obviously not cleared if it HAD to be removed.
That’s right. Thanks for pointing out Kelis cut her nose to spite her face. Why leave her on the song to recognized when she’s ungrateful…
It was cleared Beyoncé knows what she is doing and so does her team . She removed it because she doesn’t do drama so to shut Kelis up she spoke without speaking. Get a clue people.
it seems she been getting a bad deal from everyone actually in recent times. Milkshake was a huge hit and back in those days there was more money around before the pirates had their way. i didn’t think pharrell could be such a money grubber but there you go. Take beyonce to court?
Take her to court for what?
Can’t sue for something that you don’t own
Evidently she owns something it was removed
In the blink of an 👁️ 😂
Beyoncé’s music is trash. Nas said she had bad breath..
Lmao he was deadass beefing with Jay when he said that tho…
Maaan Kelis got that choppy face
How was it theft when you don’t have ownership of the song? Artists and producers don’t have monopolies over their music. If a person wants to use their music, all the person has to do is get a compulsory license then negotiate the monies with the originator. Kelis most likely signed over her publishing when she received her advance, so she is probably upset because she won’t be receiving royalties. Kelis need to go back and focus on here farm.
Dawg we over that already
Stfu.
How do you know she doesn’t own it though? She said something, and one of the biggest artist in the world had to remove it off her album. She’s big enough to have a team of lawyers to do all the work, and still HAD to remove it.
Because she would have taken Beyonce, Pharrell, and Columbia Records to court instead of going on the net. Let your lawyers to the talking
these “superfans” / stans / whatever you call them are ridiculous.. going on social media to “defend” their fav celebrity who doesnt even know they exist, and worse, attack anyone who may be at odds with their “gods.” get a life!
Just like your doing lol weirdo smh
The funniest part is that the interpolation in question isn’t even her original line. It’s from Teena Marie, but they sampled Kelis’ version of it. They literally could have taken Lauryn Hill’s version of it or the original, and they chose her probably because of the relationship with Pharrell. Then, this dummy is sitting here like she wrote the shit. It’s like these dumb fans who argue over dudes sampling the same song and calling that biting. SMH.
Why didn’t Kelis cry like this about the other 40 times it’s been sampled over the years, most recently by Doja Cat? Because it’s all about she was fuming when she saw somebody who came out from that same era doing what she thought she was going to be doing 20 years later. Shit’s sad because this is all this is about. She didn’t make it and isn’t in the in crowd anymore and is upset.
maybe DOJA asked…
Sure she did. Get a clue homie.
Renaissance trash anyways
