Kanye West Calls Upon Hip Hop Pioneers Master P, Uncle Luke & Birdman For Record Label Overhaul

Kanye West wants to learn from some of the greats.

The polarizing artist was doing some early morning tweeting on Tuesday (September 22) when he revealed he’s been trying to get in touch with Master P and Birdman to discuss being a fully independent artist. Considering the massive success the moguls found with their respective No Limit and Cash Money imprints in the ’90s, Kanye wants to pick their brain as he continues his quest to “change the music industry for good.”

“Been trying to connect with Master P and Baby,” he tweeted. “I’ve always felt they understood how to be independent.”

Ye also named 2 Live Crew’s Uncle Luke, adding he believed both Luke and P were completely without label support.

“I believe Master P and Uncle Luke we’re fully independent,” he said. “They pressed they own vinyl.”

Ye has been on his quest for independence in recent weeks, tweeting he wants to be freed from his contract with Universal Music Group and Sony.  He even sharing all 10 of his current contracts.

In a since mostly-deleted rant, the Jesus Is King rapper vowed not to release any more music until he’s out of his contracts (while also demanding a public apology from Drake and J. Cole.)

    1. Where was this when rappers actually needed a label to release music? The internet is the only label needed now. Oh the irony of pissing on the grammy too, when Hiphop literally sold out to be recognized by the grammy’s over the perception of racism and hasn’t been the same since. I was there, that’s how it went down

      1. Yeah I guess you never know how bad you got it until you actually get it. The grammy’s wasn’t what hip hop needed.
