JAY-Z is no stranger to the art of curating playlists. The rap deity has put together over 20 playlists on TIDAL, ranging from summer anthems and songs for “survival” to his favorite Nas, Prince and Michael Jackson records.

He acquired the Norwegian streaming platform in a $56.2 million deal in January 2015 before selling his majority ownership stake to Jack Dorsey’s Block, Inc. (formerly Square, Inc.) for a reported $302 million last March.

In a rare Twitter Spaces appearance last year, JAY-Z proclaimed himself a “top-tier” playlist creator while discussing the evolution of TIDAL.

“I’ve found so many songs, my playlist game is A++,” he said. “I challenge anyone out there. I see a lot of people on this call, I’m not gonna call out individual names. I’m definitely, you know, in the top-tier of playlist creators.”

As for his own musical output, JAY-Z hasn’t released an album since 2018’s Everything Is Love, a full-length collaboration with Beyoncé. As reported last month, the power couple are apparently planning to record a new project together, which would serve as the third and final installment in Bey’s Renaissance trilogy.

Fans may have to wait a while for the rumored album, though, as Hov admitted this past summer that he isn’t currently working on new music.

“I’m not actively making music or making an album or have plans to make an album, but I never want to say that I’m retired,” he said in an interview with Kevin Hart in July.

“It’s a gift, so who am I to shut it off? And it may have a different form or interpretation. Maybe it’s not an album, maybe it is. I have no idea, but I’m just going to leave it open.”
