Incarcerated Death Row Records CEO Marion “Suge” Knight will be transferred on April 22nd from the Mule Creek State Prison near Sacramento to an undisclosed federal facility, reports the Los Angeles Times.
If Knight continues to exhibit good behavior at the federal facility, he will end up serving only three more months in prison and will likely be released in July. As we previously reported, Knight has been imprisoned at the Mule Creek State Prison since violating his parole for participating in a brawl in the lobby of a Las Vegas hotel and casino in 1996. That same year a federal court determined that Knight’s involvement in the brawl was also a violation of his probation in a federal gun case, in which he pleaded no contest to attempting to buy handguns in another state for rappers on his label.
Knight will complete his state probation-violation term in three weeks, but he still must serve between 70 and 100 days on the federal violation. Despite the departure of the label’s top talent, Knight will continue running Death Row upon his release. The label recently struck a new U.S. distribution pact with the Sacramento-based Valley Media’s DNA arm and an international distribution deal with the New York-based Ron Winters Productions.
