DJ Drama is taking his place in Hip Hop history with the new generation. On Wednesday (July 22), the Gangsta Grillz creator hopped on Twitter after catching wind of an article put out by XXL calling their 2016 Freshmen list the best they ever put out.
Drama picked the beat for the viral freestyle cypher that saw 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty and more making their introduction to the game with their rhymes. The article mentioned the cypher and quoted DJ Drama saying that moment was “a changing of the guard” since the “old heads” weren’t hip to this new crop of artists.
The Philly native retweeted the article and claimed his status as a legend for his contribution that Kodak Black dissed during his portion of the cipher, calling it a “little sorry ass beat.”

The freestyle cipher would go on to put many of the artists on the map, including Lil Uzi Vert, who’s signed to Drama’s label, GenerationNow. If calling his beat legendary wasn’t enough, DJ Drama just announced even bigger news for his growing imprint.

According to a press release sent out on Wednesday, GenerationNow and Atlantic Records are extending their joint venture partnership. The union began in 2015 and produced astronomical success with the careers of Uzi and Jack Harlow.
