Tyler, The Creator appears to be planning a new collaboration with one of Houston’s finest rappers — and he went about it in the way only Tyler knows how.
On Monday (September 6), H-Town hard-hitter Maxo Kream shared a hilarious text message thread between himself and the former Odd Future frontman on Instagram, in which the pair discussed plans to work together.
It’s clear from early in the conversation that the two rappers possess very different energy levels. Tyler begins by calling Maxo — a hardened Crip from Houston’s tough Alief neighborhood — “dad” and “MAXY!,” to which the Roc Nation-signed rapper reminds him, “Lol it’s Maxo wassup bro.”
Tyler, who’s listed in Maxo’s phone as “Crazy Ass Tyler,” later sends the Brandon Banks MC a bizarre, winking Memoji sticker, which prompts a puzzled Maxo to ask, “Wtf is that lol.”
After coordinating a time to meet up, Tyler asks Maxo, “can i wear a dress,” before sending him a screenshot of him Googling “pretty dress.” Maxo, seemingly unimpressed, replies, “I got sum persona for yu instead,” referencing his line of merch.
Despite the hilarious dissonance between Tyler, The Creator and Maxo Kream’s texting styles, it appears the pair still managed to put the wheels in motion for a collaboration, with Tyler promising to send Maxo a beat pack before making plans to link up in person.
Maxo captioned the post by tagging Tyler’s Instagram account alongside a facepalm emoji, while Tyler left the comment, “heart emoji.”
Maxo Kream is currently prepping the follow-up to 2019’s critically-acclaimed Brandon Banks LP, which boasted appearances from Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, ScHoolboy Q and A$AP Ferg. The Houston native recently dropped off a new single, “Local Joker,” and was spotted with street crooner Rod Wave.
Maxo won’t be Tyler, The Creator’s first musical collaboration since the release of his Billboard 200-topping album CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST; he made two appearances on Snoh Aalegra’s TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES, which dropped in July. André 3000 also recently expressed his desire to work with Tyler.
