Brooklyn, N.Y.

Doja Cat has been tapped to host the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on September 12, according to Variety. Brooklyn’s Barclays Center is the location of choice for the annual award show this year, but there’s no word on what crowd capacity restrictions will be amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.

“I’m hosting the 2021 #VMAs this year Wowowowowowow  Tune in on 9/12 at 8pm on @MTV,” Doja wrote to Twitter on Wednesday (August 25).

Doja Cat performed a medley at the 2020 MTV VMAs and has now leveled up into earning the host role in just a year. She also took home a Moon Man for Best New Artist last year.

In addition to hosting duties, Doja Cat will be performing once again alongside artists such as Lil Nas X, Machine Gun Kelly, Chlöe Bailey, Camila Cabello, Lorde, Olivia Rodrigo, Shawn Mendes and Twenty One Pilots.

Fan voting is still open in the categories through September 3. Leading the nominations in pole position is Justin Bieber with seven and Megan Thee Stallion not far off with six, with Drake notching five without dropping an album.
