Taiwanese rapper 美麗本人 Dr. Beauty discusses the peaks and troughs of fatherhood in his latest rap-funk single, “壞爸爸 Bad Daddy.”
Released on August 15, the self-directed music video shows 美麗本人 Dr. Beauty and his daughter spending a day together as he ponders their, and particularly, her future. “I’m worried that you’d be feeling awkward whenever you talk about your parents / You prolly will joke about how you weren’t brought up by us,” he raps in Mandarin. His usual humorous charm accompanies these affectionate lyrics as he raps, “and you still tell me some nonsense like ‘daddy’s ugly.'”
In the hook, he apologizes to his daughter for working a lot. “Sorry, daddy got to work tonight / I can’t be with you tonight.” At the end of the video, we see 美麗本人 Dr. Beauty driving away in an orange blazer—the same outfit he wore in his previous video, “My name is Dr. Beauty,” featuring Dawson.
