TDE rapper Ray Vaughn got a bunch of attention for his recent Joey Bada$$ diss “Crashout Heritage,” but some of the song’s lyrics about Tory Lanez have received pushback from Maiya The Don.

Maiya, one of HipHopDX‘s Rising Stars of 2024, objected to Vaughn’s lyrics about Lanez, which on one hand criticize him for appearing on a recent track by DDG (“Tory, you should bе ashamed of yourself / ‘Cause DDG needed to sell, you did a verse from a cell”); but on the other hand point to Vaughn’s own collab with the now-imprisoned rapper (“‘Fore you went the jail, in the booth, me and you was Kenan and Kel“) and call into question Lanez’s conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion (“Don’t think you shot her, I was prayin’ for your freedom as well“).

“What’s the point of dissing tory lanez if it’s NOT for shooting a woman?” Maiya wondered in a post on X on Thursday (January 9). “Talking ab[out] ‘i was praying for your freedom’ OHHH BROTHERRRR.”

“You mad him for doing a song with DDG ??????????????????????????????????????????????” she continued.

Vaughn, for his part, responded to criticism for his support of Lanez by posting: “Say your opinion on the net they try to whoop you for it. I ain’t goin tho.”

Lanez was convicted of shooting Megan back in December, 2022 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison the following year.

Much of Ray Vaughn’s “Crashout Heritage” is directed not at Lanez, but at Joey Bada$$.

Released on Wednesday (January 8), the song comes in response to the Pro Era rapper’s own recent track “The Ruler’s Back,” which contained some choice words for West Coast Hip Hop.

“Crashout Heritage” hears Vaughn spit: “What’s with the sneak dissing? Taking shots at us then hide the Uzi / ‘Cause the only badass the world was recognizing is Boosie / Please don’t get confused with shooting them movies with really shooting / Was on Soul album so if you ask me, you look like a goofy / I hope this message reaches you well.”
