Lupe Fiasco is taking a stab at trap rap with his longtime collaborator Soundtrakk. After sharing a snippet of some trap music he made on Instagram, the veteran MC revealed he’s creating an entire EP using that style via Twitter on Thursday (September 3).
“Yes,” he tweeted a fan asking if the snippet would lead to a project. “Almost done. Might change the name though.”
Lupe also confirmed the whole EP would be trap-based and produced by Soundtrakk.
“Well it’s all trap music…so you might wanna sit this one out if you don’t like trap lupe & Soundtrakk,” he told another follower. “Cuz it’s trappy trappy..”

He added, “It’s not a mixtape. Original EP with me and @Soundtrakk.”
Soundtrakk has produced some of the former Atlantic Records artist’s biggest songs, including “Kick, Push” and “Superstar.” He was heavily involved in Lupe’s last full-length album, 2018’s DROGAS Wave.
Lupe hasn’t announced a release date for the trap project. If it does drop before the end of the year, it will be his second EP of 2020.
In July, Lupe teamed up with producer Kaelin Ellis for a five-track set titled HOUSE. The project originated from the Chicago-bred rapper discovering Ellis’ beats on Twitter and jumping on one of the Orlando-based producer’s instrumentals in May.
