HipHopDX Premiere

Burgeoning Zimbabwe rapper Bantu has linked with fellow Zimbabwean Dr. Chaii for their new collaborative EP, Coming To America Vol. 1. Bantu’s multicultural background shines on every song and spotlights a collage of unique sounds, rhythms and stories.

“We spent a year working on this EP,” Bantu tells HipHopDX. “It’s been a crazy ride. We must have made over 30 songs. Having grown up in Zimbabwe, we were exposed to so many different genres and rhythms. Coming to America Vol.1 is a fusion of Afro-Caribbean inspired sounds from the perspective of two Zimbabweans. It’s a crazy time we’re living in, but we just wanted to bring a little bit of joy and vibes to everybody.”

Bantu and Dr. Chaii have released four singles from the EP, including “Summer Whine” featuring Soaky Siren, “DiCaprio” with Bipolar Sunshine, “Gucci Cranberry” and “Stretch” featuring Def Jam artist Danileigh. In addition to those four cuts, the project also includes two previously unreleased songs — “Operator” and “Somebody.”
