HipHopDX Premiere

DJ Nykon and fellow producer Illusion — collectively known as the duo Knew Dub Plate — are ready to make their mark.

Their gritty inaugural single “All Day” features MCs Lateef The Truthspeaker and Thurst One and reggae artist Winstrong on the hook. Coupled with Nykon and Illusion’s innate abilities to craft nothing but bangers, the track hits hard in all the right places.

“The collab happened by pure energy of things coming together naturally for once,” Nykon tells HipHopDX. “That shit is rare for me. lllusion and I were looking to get some raps on the beat. So, I actually called my boy Thurst on FaceTime at like 4 a.m. and made him record me a verse and a hook. He woke up and did it, then I sent it to Lateef and he and Winstrong did their magic.”

Lateef and Winstrong also have a group together called Roots & Tings, which spotlights the existing parallels between Hip Hop and reggae.

In January, DX premiered the track “Class War” featuring Lateef’s Quannum Recordings brethren Gift of Gab and Lyrics Born.

“All Day” comes from Knew Dub Plate’s forthcoming None Of Them Done. The project is expected to arrive on November 1.

Nykon and Illusion plan to release plenty of new music in the future. In the meantime, check out “All Day” above.
