John Legend might have had some assistance from a little liquid courage, but the EGOT-winning artist definitely wasn’t afraid to speak his mind when asked about Donald Trump.
TMZ caught up with the celebrated musician outside of The Peppermint nightclub in West Hollywood on Tuesday night (July 30) and he didn’t hold back.
“Our president is a flaming racist,” he begins. “He’s a piece of shit. He says piece of shit shit all the time. That’s what he does. We need to get him out of office. There’s a lot that can be done. There’s over a century of history that created the problems that they have.
“We need to focus on making all of our communities better instead of talking shit about our communities just because you’re a racist prick. Donald Trump is an evil fucking canker sore on America’s whole landscape, so we need to get him out of office.
Legend was likely referring to the recent comments Trump made about Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, which many people deemed racist as Cummings is African-American.

“Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous,” Trump tweeted. “His district is considered the Worst in the USA.
“As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”
Legend has never been a fan of Trump. In April 2018, Kanye West shared text messages from Legend, imploring ‘Ye to distance himself from the current POTUS.
“Hey its JL,” the text message began. “I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump. You’re way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for. As you know, what you say really means something to your fans. They are loyal to you and respect your opinion.

“So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause, especially to people of color. Don’t let this be part of your legacy. You’re the greatest artist of our generation.”
