For those who don’t know, The Legendary Roots Crew is quite possibly the best hip hop show on earth. Their fabled high energy act coupled with a ridiculous live band has made waves in the industry and become Black Thought, ?uestlove and the rest of the crew’s calling card. So what do you think would happen if you took this Legendary Roots Crew, threw them into an intimate setting in Las Vegas and hosted the event for 300 beautiful women and Roots fans? A unforgettable night is what ensued on the evening of Feb 15th during the week of Magic and NBA All Star as Tanqueray presented The Roots in a very special private function that none other than HipHopDX would be front and center.

With 300+ tucked into the dim confines of Body English at the Hard Rock hotel, everyone was in high anticipation to see the Roots. As DJ Warren Peace and DJ Clue slayed the crowd with ridiculous sets ranging from Prince to Lil Jon, everyone in attendance bobbed and swayed with free Tanqueray drinks in one hand and tasty finger foods in the other. But when the lights dimmed at roughly 10pm, the crowd rushed to the front of the stage as ?uestlove and the rest of the band (brass section included) emerged onto the stage.

As Black Thought snatched the mic from the stand, the pulsating drums from “Game Theory” expounded from the phenomenal sound system. Thought took control of the mic and the crowd with the intensity of a conductor directing his orchestra. As the band rolled seamlessly through joints like “Long Time” and “In The Music”, the crowd ate up every last syllable that spilled from Thought‘s mouth.

As the band gave renditions of “Jungle Boogie” and other old school classics, it prepped the crowd for an absolutely ridiculous rendition of “You Got Me” with guitarist Kirk Douglas bringing the crowd to an inaudible roar when he delivered the illest guitar solo that has ever been seen in hip hop. As Black Thought let the last words of “The Seed” roll of his tongue, the crowd was almost relieved that Thought had finally let go of their collective throats. It was a show no one would ever forget. And what was even iller? They did it again for a crowd who paid $200 per person only 2 hours later. All we could say is “Woooooooow” Flava Flav.
