Hip Hop turned 45 on Saturday (August 11) and to commemorate the occasion, Mass Appeal got Nas and Dave East to name their Top 5 Hip Hop songs ever in a new segment called “Mass Appeal Brain Trust.”
Nas, who co-owns Mass Appeal, rattled off his favorites in a short video clip. His picks included Public Enemy’s “Rebel Without A Pause,” Eric B. & Rakim’s “Eric B Is President,” Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock’s “It Takes Two,” Slick Rick’s “La-Di-Da” and Run-DMC’s “Sucka MCs.”
East, on the other hand, had a tougher time choosing his Top 5. He managed to name Nas’ “I Gave You Power,” Beanie Sigel “Look At Me Now,” Eminem’s “Stan,” Styles P’s entire Gangster & A Gentleman album and Styles P’s Phantom Ghost Menace mixtape.
The Mass Appeal Braintrust is a panel of experts tasked to curate the 45 greatest Hip Hop songs of all time.
