This week, the question on everyone’s mind is just how well
would Doctor’s Advocate do. Well The Game’s album proved to be a resounding
success on the charts. Doctor’s Advocate demolished the competition by selling
over 358k copies in its first week. Easily taking the #1 spot. Although it isn’t
the 600k that The Documentary opened up with, it still proves to be quite
successful considering how CDs aren’t selling quite like they used to.
Any other week, Akon would have taken the #1 spot as
Konvicted sold a shade under 285k in its opening week. It still garners Akon with the #2 spot which, behind Game, isn’t bad at all. The third debut on the
charts which did fairly well is Fat Joe’s Me Myself & I album. While moving
over to indie label Koch, the album still managed to sell just over 60k in its
first week on the charts and landing at #14. Considering how little marketing
Koch does, this has to be measured as quite an achievement.
Elsewhere on the charts, Beyonce’s B’Day has had a
resurgence on the charts as the album sold 68k on the strength of “Irreplaceable”
putting it at #9 this week. John Legend inches closer to Gold status with the impressive
Once Again clocking in at #12 with 60k sold (469k overall). Jim Jones’ Hustler’s P.O.M.E. continues to do
well moving another 42k (150k overall) and sitting pretty at #25.
What started a good week on the charts for Hip Hop will
continue next week as Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg look to outdo The Game. Will it
happen?
