After nearly a decade behind bars, Max B is set to be released from prison this year, according to French Montana.

Montana took to Instagram on Wednesday (January 31) to tease The Wavy One’s release.

In 2009, Max B (born Charles Wingate) was sentenced to 75 years in prison after being convicted of multiple counts of kidnapping, armed robbery, and felony murder following a 2006 robbery-murder case in New Jersey.

In 2016, with the help of a new legal and management team, the Harlem rapper entered a plea agreement for a reduced charge of aggravated manslaughter. His previous charges of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree kidnapping were subsequently dropped.

In a later interview with Hot 97, French Montana detailed Max B’s new arrangement.

“Well, he took a plea deal,” Montana said. “Cause them numbers was crazy they gave him. That whole 75 years. Cause he blew trial. So, when he took the plea deal, they just knocked down the years down from 75 to 20. But he already got almost 10 years in … He can come home as early as two years. But if he fuck it up in there, he could do up to six … He thinking he gonna die in there. They gonna own his coffin. Now 20 is like a walk in the park.”
