Eminem’s headline-making diss of Donald Trump at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards has not only been met with criticism from supporters of the president but also from some Hip Hop fans who took issue with the technical aspect of Slim Shady’s performance. One person bothered by the latter is Redman, who had nothing but love for Marshall Mathers’ Trump takedown in a new interview with BET.

“The delivery was great to me,” Redman said. “It wasn’t bad. I didn’t read the comments like I said, but what I saw from it and talking to him yesterday on how … when Eminem do something, it’s not just a song. It’s not just a freestyle. It’s a statement. Even the way he talks, it’s a statement. He talks to state things. Not just to be talking shit. Not just to have a gang of words come out your mouth and not mean it. He likes to state when he talk. He likes to get the point across the board heavy, just as I do.”

Redman expressed his admiration for Eminem, praising the rap superstar for using the platform to make a statement.

“As I watched that BET cypher, I’m like, ‘Wow,'” he continued. “You know, Eminem could’ve went up there and blacked out on rhymes with flows and killed that shit. But he felt as a person of his color — of his color — to represent us on BET with a rhyme addressing the president. Y’all gotta understand that, alright? He’s not black. He’s white. We all know that.

“But he has power, and he used his power on that BET cypher to make a statement for us as well as a people — as all of us as a people — but especially for us. And everyone, anyone should respect that man for that because he didn’t have to do it. It’s not even many of us that wouldn’t step out the box and did what he did and took that opportunity to used that platform on the BET cypher to make a muthafuckin’ statement.”

The Funk Doc didn’t mince words when pushing back against Eminem’s critics. Reggie Noble dismissed all the critiques in a blunt way.

“We should not criticize him on, ‘Ugh, his flow was alright,'” he said. “‘Oh, he didn’t have his shoestring tied up. Oh shit, he had a napkin coming out his pocket when he was doing it. He ain’t look right.’ Nah, fuck all that bullshit!”
