Being that Drake’s latest project More Life has been marketed as a playlist instead of a traditional album, according to the Canadian crooner himself, the rollout of music videos has been different from what you would traditionally expect from a studio release.
Almost five months after the album’s spring release date, there still hasn’t been a music video released for any of its 22 tracks. This may change soon, with recent clues pointing to a visual for “Gyalchester” having been filmed in Toronto by Drake and his collective of October’s Very Own associates.
Drake will be debuting his newest OVO Flagship Store this Saturday, August 5 in Toronto, located at Yorkdale Shopping Centre. To help advocate the upcoming opening, Drake and his OVO team shot an exclusive performance of “Gyalchester” at Yorkdale. In the visual, Drake and his associates stroll through the mall, clad in sweaters bearing the famous OVO sigil. The multi-platinum rapper plants his feet on top of a moving Cadillac Escalade and does what he does best. The video cuts off after one minute, ending with a still image of the word “Yorksdale.”
At HipHopDX, reviewer Scott Glaysher thought that More Life had “a plethora of exciting moments that will ensure this project’s shelf life.” The album was also included it in DX’s Top Albums of 2017 (So Far) list, where it said, “Drake did exactly what he needed to with his VIEWS follow-up: kept up the hit parade, addressed his rivals head-on (for anyone that can spot a subliminal) and expanded his global street cred with savvy international features all while keeping the stakes low by framing the release as a “playlist” rather than an official album.”
