Following the passing of David Bowie over the weekend, a number of rappers have paid tribute to the singer through social media.

Among those who honored Bowie were Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and MC Hammer.

“David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime…I pray for his friends and family,” Kanye West wrote in two separate tweets.

MC Hammer offered his thanks to Bowie for standing up for black musicians.

“Salute and Thank you to #DavidBowie for standing up for #BlackMusicians RIP @Iam360WISE,” MC Hammer tweeted.

Chicago lyricist Lupe Fiasco referenced the 1986 film Labyrinth in his commentary on Bowie.

“The entirety of my David Bowie gestalt begins and ends with this movie right here. Peace Out!,” Lupe Fiasco wrote.

According to the New York Times, Bowie passed away on Sunday (January 10) after being diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago.
