Timbaland recently received a whirlwind of backlash after the renowned producer shared a meme containing an image from a scene from Eddie Murphy’s Coming To America film.
The meme replaces the name Clay – which was actually used in the film – to Bruce, so it is relative to Bruce Jenner’s recent sex/name change to Caitlyn Jenner.
“His Momma named him Bruce. Imma call him Bruce” it reads.

“This was a repost I thought was funny I’m not making fun of him I support him but stop it we can all laugh sometime dammmmm it’s just a dam repost someone sent to me !!!!!”
Many did not view Timbaland‘s repost in a laughing matter. Instead, he was accused of being insensitive toward Jenner and the transgender community. As headlines began to surface surrounding Timbaland’s Instagram post, Timbo took to Twitter to clear the air.
“boy some of the media outlets have so many fooled. let me explain this cause i see they are putting up their own headlines to deceive alot of you guys,” he wrote via Twitter. “this is what happen. i saw a meme post and repost it cause i seen the movie in the post and thought that part of the movie was one of the funniest parts. and somebody decide to take out clay which was said in the movie and put bruce. thats it i didnt make the meme that was posted or said publicly what the meme said. Man i find it funny you can take a something reposted and say “Timbaland said” in the headlines. But nevertheless that is the story but i doubt they will post this. Not interesting enough for them. now back to my lovely day. i just had to tell the story the correct way. now what u think after that is what u think. i already stated i have nothing against him or anybody who have made that decision. i said that right after he did the interview. publicly what the media need 2 post is some of the fresh, new talent i repost on my instagram page. thats what the world need to see, show them that.
