With Brooklyn, New York rapper Bobby Shmurda’s next court date scheduled for tomorrow (April 22), XXLMag.com recently spoke with his defense attorney, Kenneth Montgomery to discuss what happens next in the legal process.

In addition to discussing Shmurda’s court appearance, Montgomery was asked what the likeliness of the rapper getting his bail reduced is. He responded dismally to the bail question by stating, “Not before this judge. Absolutely not.”

In regards to what he believes will happen in court, Montgomery explained that he expects “the case to be put on some sort of track for discovery” regarding paperwork.

“I expect—like most of my cases, the thousands of cases that I’ve had—I expect the judge to have a decision based on a motion that I authored and gave the courts and the prosecutors to respond,” Montgomery said while speaking with XXLMag.com. “And I expect the case to be put on some sort of track for discovery to make sure all the paperwork is turned over. I expect to give a hard drive [to obtain] outstanding videotapes and other discovery that the district attorney has and I expect to get locked in to try to fight this case.”

Shmurda’s defense attorney spoke briefly on the musician’s wellbeing, adding that “he’s a tough kid.”

Bobby Shmurda was arrested in December of last year while at New York City’s Quad City Studio. He currently faces gang conspiracy, drugs, and weapons charges.

In February, he had the opportunity to speak with Hot 97 to offer his side of the story regarding his arrest. According to the rapper, what the public has been told about his arrest that night “is not true.”

“Nah, what they hearing about that night, that shit is not true,” Shmurda said during his interview with Hot 97. “The cops been out for me for forever. They been trying to slay me for forever, but they’ll never catch me with nothing. It might be like four, five cops that night that had just grabbed me up. They told me that ‘Yo, I don’t want my kids listening to your music. This and that.’”
