Countless chart-topping Hip Hop hits contain bits-and-pieces of previously recorded music that often get overlooked.
Beats, lyrics and sometimes entire songs are recycled and reused within the genre, then packaged as entirely new tracks.
This concept is explored in a new mixtape created by New York City disc jockey Ezekiel “Zeke” Akinyemi.
“We take from the past and never give credit, so I hope with this project more people are aware of where the Hip Hop comes from,” Zeke tells HipHopDX.

DJ Zeke has put together three of these Origins Of Hip Hop mixtapes and his third was just released via Soundcloud, CD and on USB glass flash drives.
To make the music-mix more animated, Zeke has incorporated the comic and TV show, The Boondocks.
“I only added The Boondocks after I heard a sample of Tom Scott in one of the episodes,” he says. “The episode with the painter [Bob Ross] and Riley.”
Origins Of Hip Hop contains an extensive tracklist.
