In a newly published interview with Tim Westwood TV, Detroit artist Big Sean spoke on the recording process for his new album Dark Sky Paradise.

During the conversation, the G.O.O.D. Music artist revealed that he recorded the entire project at his house and reiterated some of the producers he worked with on the album.

“I recorded the whole thing in my crib,” Big Sean says. “I built a studio in my house. I didn’t have any label heads in my ear [or] any A&Rs or anything, I was just focused on the music [and] focused on the vision. I had producers from Key Wane, to [DJ] Mustard to Kanye [West] to new produces like Amaire [Johnson] who I just signed. He did the song ‘One Man Can Change The World’ with me, John Legend and Kanye. Rob Got Beats did the intro… It was just really cool to have people who saw the vision and were down, and they brought their A-Game. They came and made the beats at the crib. I would say 90% of them.”

Later on, Big Sean outlined the benefits as an artist of being able to record in the comfort of your own home, citing the strict time restraints at professional recording studios as a primary example.

“That enabled me to live the music out,” Big Sean adds. “I had time to pick it apart [and] go through it. That’s a real important process for me because I’m somebody who can’t necessarily just operate on recording a song and being done, I like to take my time with it and live that process out. It was in my living environment, man, [so] I got to really do it right… [Recording studios] put you on a time schedule. It’s like, ‘Okay your session starts at six’ [but] sometimes I’m not in the mood to record at six. I’ll be in the mood as soon as I wake up. I always had that problem a lot in my life, so it’s really cool to finally get to the point where I can have my own studio.”

Big Sean’s latest project becomes his first #1 album on the Billboard 200, selling a total of 139,427 units in its first week.
