Radio host Charlamagne Tha God has apologized for releasing a pre-recorded tape of undefeated boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. attempting to read during an interview on Power 105.1.

Within the original clip — which was released in August on Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” — Mayweather struggles to complete a ten-second drop in support of hiring veterans.

“I’m Floyd Mayweather,” he says before stumbling over the remainder of his lines.

Shortly after, Charlamagne admitted to HipHopDX that he felt bad for releasing the audio.

“I just felt like it was something that the listeners deserve to hear,” he said. “I like to give people context to the content that’s constantly out there. In hindsight I feel a little bad, only because he was recording drops for us.”

In the new Power 105.1 interview, which was with fellow radio host Angie Martinez, Charlagmane apologized for unleashing the embarrassing audio.

“I think most of the time with Charlamagne, he’s just being honest,” Angie says. “Whether you like it or not, that’s being honest. And that’s okay. But with that Mayweather thing, I thought that was just a little below the belt… I just felt like that wasn’t about you being honest. I felt there was an opportunity—and maybe you thought it was funny—but you took something that was private, you asked the man to do something for you, and then you make fun of him. It wasn’t about being honest.”

After a bit of back-and-forth banter with his co-hosts Angela Yee and DJ Envy, Charlamagne reluctantly apologized to Floyd.

“I’m sorry champ,” he said, after issuing an apology to “all the people who can’t really read.”
