During an interview with Vlad TV, Miami rapper Trick Daddy revealed that he has chosen to adopt a “ghetto diet” rather than take on traditional treatment options for Lupus, which he revealed he was diagnosed with during a radio interview in 2009.

The Floridian musician even referred to the various Lupus treatments as Ponzi schemes, stating that the higher-ups claim they don’t have a cure in order to sell medicines and treatments. Prior to criticizing Lupus treatments, Trick Daddy informed those watching that he feels “wonderful” and hasn’t had any complications in a year or two.

“I feel wonderful,” the rapper said. “The form of Lupus I have is called Discoid Lupus. There’s a lot of different kinds of Lupus where people’s bones and joints actually fuck with them bad. Where their hair falls out. Teeth fall out and you’re tired. And you’re dehydrated. You’re just weak. Sometimes you can’t even move. Don’t wanna get out of the bed for two, three days. But thank God I continue my ghetto diet. Eat a lot of booty. Suck a lot of pussy. Pork. Drink a lot of water and vodka…I been fine. I haven’t had no new outbreaks or no complications in probably a year or two. A lot of these things that they claim that they don’t have [a] cure for are the way of the world, which they gonna continue to sell you the medicines. And sell you the creams. And sell you all these other things to make the world go ’round. And when it comes to that I won’t be a part of they Ponzi scheme.”

Although Trick Daddy has chosen to take on his “ghetto diet,” he says he does support those who use medicine as treatment.

“Dealing with Lupus I support everybody who do the medicines, but a lot of the medicines are steroids,” he said. “And with the steroids I even let ’em shoot it in my arm, my face, and all that. Then you gotta take another pill. So, the steroids gonna affect your kidney and your liver. Then you gotta take another pill. So, that pill that you took for you kidney and liver gonna affect your—It’s just too much shit. You know? So, what I do is I go out every night, shit. And I smoke and I drink and I eat good. Everybody talking about ‘I don’t eat meat. I don’t eat pork.’ Shit. Pork ain’t killed nobody. Guns kill mothafuckas.”

While speaking exclusively to HipHopDX in 2009, Trick Daddy announced that he was no longer taking the medicine he received for his condition.

“I stopped taking any medicine that they was giving me because for every medicine they gave me I had to take a test or another medicine every thirty days or so to make sure that medicine wasn’t causing side effects – dealing with kidney or liver failure…I just said all together I ain’t taking no medicine.” Trick said.

Another Hip Hop artist who was also diagnosed with Lupus was the late James “J Dilla” Yancey. The noted beatsmith passed away from Lupus complications in 2006.
