The Top 10 Most Popular Hip Hop Singles The Week Of 2/24/2014

With the TDE emcee having just released his major label debut days ago, HipHopDX’s Top 10 this week features ScHoolboy Q twice in the Top 3 and his labelmates Jay Rock and Kendrick Lamar on a separate unreleased collaboration elsewhere on the list. Rick Ross, whose Mastermind album is now streaming on iTunes and will be released next week, comes in at #2 with his The Weeknd feature on “In Vein.” Pharrell and Justin Timberlake link up again—The Neptunes produced the bulk of Timberlake’s first solo album—but this time for one of Pharrell’s solo releases.

The rest of the list includes more music from Rick Ross, a Lupe Fiasco track featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Raphael Saadiq on a Kid Cudi song, and more.

ScHoolboy Q Enlists A$AP Rocky On Target Bonus Track

While ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron features Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, and more, the South Central spitter reserved his A$AP Rocky feature for the Target Deluxe version of the release. The song, which borrows its name from a Red Hot Chili Peppers track, finds ScHoolboy Q anchoring with A$AP Rocky’s appearance first. “For sure, I bring the baddest through / I sold dope on your avenue / The white girls call me radical / The Black girls say I’m mad at you,” Q raps.

More than two years ago, Q addressed the possibility of the recently released collaboration. “We’re trying, we’re trying,” he said of a song with A$AP Rocky. “He’s on the road, I’m on the road. We’re gonna try and get it together. You gotta have it sound right – two of the hottest niggas coming up. I’m not a cocky nigga, but I call myself [one of] the hottest niggas [coming up in the game]. But yeah, Rocky, we gotta do it.”

ScHoolboy Q’s “Pusha Man,” which serves as the other track available when fans purchase the Deluxe version at Target, also made it into the Top 3 this week. That song, which clocks in at a minute and forty three seconds in length, features a short-formed single verse. “I’m your Pusha Man / Time and time I heal again / Always down to lend a hand / Would you tell a friend? / I’m the one that keep the work,” Q spits in a sing-song delivery. The rapper is expected to land in the #1 spot on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, according to Billboard. The rapper’s major label debut album may sell between 150,000 and 160,000 copies by the end of the tracking week, the report says. Official numbers are set to be announced March 5.

Rick Ross & The Weeknd Link Up On “Mastermind”

Despite next week’s release date, leaks of Rick Ross’ upcoming sixth album alongside an iTunes stream gave fans a preview of what to expect. While a leak of the Kanye West featuring “Sanctified,” which can be streamed below, reached the #9 spot, his collaboration with The Weeknd earned him a spot in the Top 3. The song, which features a solitary verse from Ross—as well as one from The Weeknd—is a slow-tempo number that will appear as the thirteenth track on Mastermind.

Pharrell & Justin Timberlake Release “Brand New”

Scheduled to release the day before Ross’ Mastermind, Pharrell’s first solo album since 2006 will be released through Back Lot Music/Columbia Records. The album, a ten-track effort called G I R L, is slated to feature Miley Cyrus, Daft Punk and Alicia Keys. With what seems to be his next single, Pharrell has linked up with Justin Timberlake after working extensively together on the singer’s debut album in 2002 (The Neptunes were behind hits like “Señorita, “Like I Love You,” and “Rock Your Body”). With a throwback sound and the singers’ back and forth lyrics, “Brand New” climbed to the #3 spot this week.

      1. Nas softened him up and then Sheek smacked him around and then Game came through and just massacred his whole brand, and then Camron came and exposed how worthless he was to Ny and the Ross came and took his rap career and made it his own. Now he is finished.

        GRODT – 8 million
        the Massacer – 5 million
        Curtis- 1 million
        BIsD- 500,000
        SKI – 98,000

Only rapper in the history of rap music to lose half or more of his fans with every release, only rapper to lose a million fans a year for his entire career (2003-2009), the worst fall of in the history of rap music.

Eminem had to release him because he couldnt sell any singles, he was dead weight and so terrible that Eminem refused to put him on his last two albums and replaced him with Wayne and Rihanna.

        Cassidy Won.

    1. How the fck is 50 cent the funeral is not on this list? it has 100 ‘s of votes and over 200+ comments. wth?

    2. Upon its release, Mastermind was met with generally positive reviews from music critics. Nick Catucci of Entertainment Weekly gave the album an A, saying “As always, he’s got a gifted ear for rumbly, deep-gloss beats. “Sanctified”, which Kanye produced and raps on, sounds like platinum mallets drumming on shipping containers. His flow too remains flawlessly weighted. He’s leisurely and precise even on the theatrically dark “In Vein”, where he raps fast to play off the Weeknd’s cynical come-ons. The bleaker the setting, the brighter Ross shines.”[37]

–Case in point: fuck all you 50 cent lovers. who gives a shit? he’s finished. the release of mastermind trumps everything that shitty cent hasn’t done in the last 8 years, successfully, that is. where’s the radio play at? huh? where’s the legion of brainless ass followers? yeah, that funeral song is might symbolic of his own deadened career! Fuck 50 cent, fuck g unit, fuck his lame followers, fuck anybody associated with 50 cent! This is the year of the bosses. Maybach Music is not only a fucking label, it’s the army, it’s the navy, and god damn it, it’s the fucking air force. What I’m trying to say is, this is OUR MOTHERFUCKING YEAR!!! MAYBACH IS TAKING THE GAME BY STORM AND AINT SHIT YOU BITCH NIGGAS CAN DO ABOUT IT! #bawse

      1. If he is a Cop it just means 50 is so garbage that he couldn’t even destroy a Cops career it just means NY legends like JayZ, Nas and Raekwon would rather put a Cop on their album than put 50 on their album.

It must hurt inside knowing that someone that you call a cop gets more love than the guy you consider your hero.

        Hurts dont it?

      2. The 50 Stans all use the same words: “Cop”, “Fiddy”, and “groupie” Its like they are programmed or try to talk like 50. 50 makes cartoons for them and got nude for them in his movie and they rewarded him with loyalty.

      3. “yes only fiddy fans say the word cop”

his fans dont know the difference between a cop a CO and a security guard, they are little rich kids who only listen to Eminem.
Why do you think 50 used cartoons to diss Nas, Cassidy, Fat Joe, Game and Jadakiss in the Piggybank video? He used cartoons again to diss Ross.
Do you think those silly cartoons were made for the streets or made for kids?

        That shit ruined his career.

    3. When 50 lost the streets he was desperate amped needed a new fanbase so he went after the Net Nerds go look at the video Pass The Patron and then look up Pruane2Forever and Keenan Cahill. 50 targeted these creatures because he knew how hard they would ride for him if he embraced them, thats why 50 gets so much love on Rap Blogs but zero love outside the Internet.

      1. 50 Cent called his group and label Gorilla Unit so that white people could laugh at them calling themselves primates (monkeys, chimpanzees, oragutangs etc.) Give Em credit for making millions off his pet monkey.

    4. “Only rapper in the history of rap music to lose half or more of his fans with every release, only rapper to lose a million fans a year for his entire career (2003-2009), the worst fall of in the history of rap music.”

      That makes me sad.

      1. yeah you seem sad… a sad rick ross fanboy posting as tony yayo pretending to be a saddy fiddy stan

      2. Hey fanboy we welcome nerds in our movement, go buy my single “Pass the Patron” on ITunes.
